I just called into Buck hall and they stated that the landing will most likely close if the federal shutdown happens. Did anyone else here anything differently? The lady on the phone was not really sure.
i do not know that i would buy that. find it hard to believe that they would close a public landing on the waterway. then again; with the idiots that we have running the country all it takes is just a suggestion from one and there go the lemmings following the first one off of the cliff.
Isn’t Buck hall run with a program of volunteers for a month- a Federal Program. They stay for free and keep bathrooms clean ect. DNR SC works with regulation of SC Wilflife?

I was putting in at Garris landing this morning and park ranger told me that Garris and buck hall would be locked with GOV shutdown. Where else can you put in at? Is SeeWee church place still open?
Is Isle of Palms our next point?

This also means that HONEY Hill- Federal Camp Ground-Closed? Great weather this weekend…took off work…limited wind…kids good…rebuilt boat carbs…and new lights…and the stars are aligned…and the landing is closed.? Really?

father in law headed that way now will post up as well when I hear from him. We have a camp on ICW right next to buck hall with a dock but no landing, that would suck for us. If it does shut hopefully it is short lived.

Just left Buck Hall, they had all staff at gates and going through Camp Ground telling it would close 6 am Wensday.
Another one said 11am for campers,
I was afraid of that. Anyone know of another launch in the area? I was hoping to take the kids out tomorrow.
So why exactly does it matter if the government is shut down if you want to launch a boat. I mean it is not like there is someone thee to launch your boat and park the truck.
i guess they are afraid that they will not get our $5 parking fee to use for whatever it is they use it for. i will admit though that they did a pretty good job on the boat ramp and dock several years ago. now; if they just had more parking spaces up front for those of us old coots with bad knees and feet yet without handicap stickers. oh well; can’t have it all i guess.
BUT!!! I do have to agree with the question. What difference does it make at the boat landing? We launch our own boats. DUH!
The biggest difference is that the people have common sense and the government has the power, call the governors office, attorney generals office(he is DNR’s boss)reps and senators and ask why the state can’t do something… Or, just bring the bolt cutters! You can bet they have the money and manpower to arrest and prosecute! I don’t remember the exact words but the original supreme law for government goes something like this…“of the people,by the people, and for the people”" Now it is more like" WE KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR THE PEOPLE.

Well said Toppy, arrogance in your face .
ELECTIONS MATTER FOLKS !!!
Or, call your US representative and tell him to do his job. Crazy idea I know. Yes dinnertime, elections do matter. We just had a major one less than a year ago.
Toppyblue the problem lies not with Dnr, as they are state. It is the Feds who shut it down. I guess there will be no one to collect the fees from the box, so they shut it down. On the upside fishing in the bay should be more peaceful while the shutdown lasts.
Either there is no launches other than the two federal ones or the rest of the launches are top secret. I guess I’ll have to make the middle east folks happy and burn some fuel.

Does anyone know if both landings mentioned by redspyder are gated? I’m from the upstate, planning on driving down to shrimp. If gov shutdown means no ranger or attendant on the grounds, then I’m going. I think I remember a gate at BH, but not 100% sure.
