“The 25 taken in the slot are accounted for in the allowable catch that is supposed to keep the fishery sustainable. The problem is if you catch 25 breeders of which 5 die then the next day or week…”
Just wondering…are the potentially dead 5 breeders also accounted for in the allowable catch?
Guess I am ASSUMING that DNR realizes that some breeders will die, and that the allowable catch is designed to allow a set number of fish to reach breeding age.
Way to come in and make a good first impression. You accuse others of acting like women but call everyone “dicks”. So most of us are women and you are an immature child…oh and an Army ranger. Now that we all know who we are, have a nice day.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
“Rangers” are like Texans…How do you know you’re talking to one? Give them a second and they’ll tell you.
Way to make the tab and any other Rangers on this forum proud, J3Norty. One word of advice, start pounding Zimas (with Jolly Ranchers, of course) AFTER you’ve turned your computer off.
Fred, I gotta admit it, you’re right. He was an incredibly talented individual before the flood gates opened and all of the crazy spilled out for the world to see.
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
J3norty Had a post wanting help in the jetties. where did it Go!!! he must have gotten mad and pulled out. Wish a certain relative of his would have had the same idea 9 months before his birth.

I’m betting OP deleted it.

I have to agree with fritz, I catch a lot of tagged reds and sheepshead every year and I’ve had fish that have been caught multiple times according to the paperwork I received from dnr.
It might have been my comment to him that sent him into a tail spin and deleted it. I can say in all the reds I have caught and released I know some died because of a swallowed hook being cut off and left in at release cause of size. I know only use circle hooks with natural baits. But I don’t think even if the hook rust out, that a long fight pulling against its stomach is good for any fish. But what can you do, cant keep it or green jeans gets you. That being said I never go out to target bull reds not my style of fishing I want dinner for the night then I go home. just my $.02
Fred thinks all fish die after being released it seems, surprised I ever catch a tagged bull.
23 says you only need 20 baits for a day of fishing.
Never said that and you assume wrong Fritz. Twist it how you want. I know a lot survive, especially those caught by concerned and knowledgeable fishermen/women. I also know a lot do not survive the catch, photo op, and release as do you.
Saying photos kill fish Is like saying guns kill people. It only takes 10 seconds to snap a photo. Sure some idiots take to long. Some grab gills and hold vertically. Others like to go in for the hug. What a few dumb asses do should not be a reflection of what all do. I target Bull Reds from the beach. I use a stout rod, a beefy reel with a hefty drag. Thirty pound braid that can reel in a six foot shark. More than capable of getting the job done on reds. Before a fish hits the sand I have a camera and pliers ready to go. The whole process in less than a minute to snap a pic and remove a hook, and send them on there way. It ain’t hard. Over the years I have caught a few. Only 1 ended up dieing on the beach. It was a slot red. I’m sure others have died upon release from exhaustion, but that can be said for all fish caught by all people. Whether inshore, offshore or surf. I take great care in giving the reds the best opportunity to live. I think the overwhelming majority of them do. They swim away strong. No venting needed from the beach. Allot may be lost from fishing for them deep water by boat, but I’m betting the survival rate from the beach is much, much higher. We all loose a few over the years. It is just part of fishing. I hate to see people that fish for Bull Reds being thrown in a basket like a bunch of deplorables. I try not to pass judgement on what others fish for. I just do my best to keep my own house clean and ensure that what I do enables the fish that I catch have the best chance at survival. Shall we say that no one deserves to get to drive a car because a few drive drunk???
If all concerned guys on this thread would start taking and posting photos of all the bull reds they see floating, I’d wager we’d see very few of said photos. Prove me wrong.

You of all people that have posted many pictures of you eating fresh fried recently caught fish should know you are wording this all wrong. MURDER?? from you? LOL.
You use Murder to suit this moment in your dislike of targeting slot Spot Tail? I would figure a Charter Captain would support the catching of slot and whatever else bites to keep a customer happy. It is not called Murder it is called Harvesting food. Geez. Do you call all the venison Polly gives you Murder?
By the way I could give a rip less if you make your living taking Tourists to catch a few Bull Reds. I just don’t think the Photo op in Hot weather should be done. I practice a lot of Catch and release, mostly in my pond just to give me a few minutes of peace. When I head to the salt water to fish I expect to bring home some supper. Not a photo.
