I know that a few have been caught, but it seems that there is a late start this year. The surf reports that I follow (avid surfer here) say that the water temp isn’t below 81. I have yet to even wear a neoprene top. Just wondering if anyone else has seen a large amount of reds running yet. I have a few new set ups, I am dying to get broken in properly.
Season is running late. Cooler weather on the way. Talked to a guide yesterday that teaches surf fishing seminars. His thoughts were this weekend or the next should bring them in.
I was out on sunday and the water was clear as coffee. I couldn’t see mullet anywhere. You’ll know its time when you’re paddling out and you see mullet swimming in the crest of the wave.
yep, water just needs to cool down a tad before the reds really start coming through. Of course there’s always a chance to catch a cruiser, but once you see the mullet jumping/swimming in the breakers then ITS ON BABY!
Fished north end of Folly this morning on a rising tide with no luck either.
Water temp will need to get below 80…and stay there. 75-78 seems to be the sweet spot. I predict around the next full moon phase, the spawn will be in full swing.
I agree… which could mean MAD could be very fruitful. Last year water was really cold haha
I usually fish a lot in Edisto. I was down there starting Thursday of last week fully expecting them to be there… nothing though…
Did catch a ton of trout on the upside… personal best included…

It was fruitful for me when i go home
You know where to put that fish right ?
hahaha don’t worry, if we dont end up next to each other again, I will certainly save all my whiting just for you buddy
Water temp has finally dropped and winds from the west late next week. I do believe it will be perfect conditions for the fall run… Low water flow Friday as well so holding my fingers crossed everything will calm down and the reds will come close to shore…
Big reds like the rough surf. They are running now. This recent cold front set them off. Caught a 37 last night.
If it is too rough where I fish nothing bites. Westerly winds bring them in IMO…
