I had this photo that a friend took along with a few others that show the pitfalls of using BP at the wrong tide. I also printed the photo’s out and had them delivered to some Berk county officials at a Republican breakfast a few months ago to maybe help speed things up with dreging
Wowza. That is worse than I’ve ever seen it. I’ve seen it with a few inches of water over most of the place, but nothing this low. An airboat, or perhaps a Copperhead type motor, would be your best shot at clearing through that… and even then, only in the center.
Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.
I want this to get plenty of hits to hopefully prevent the unwary boaters and fishermen from having a rude awakening. I always check to see whether or not we have a +/- minus tide and always make sure I am at least 2 hours above low tide putting in and pulling out. On a minus tide, +3 hours. I believe Summerville Anglers fishing Club had a lot to do with getting attention drawn to the problem. Props to them. On the plus side of the current situation, parking is a breeze these days.
You might want to resize them on your photo host. On my computer (Chrome), it loads a picture that is literally double the size of my 24" monitor, and then suddenly it shrinks a little. I think if you resized them to something like 600X480, you’ll get more hits. Maybe a link to bigger pics.

Misjudged the tide window last night (Sunday). It wasnt until 9pm that there was enough water to get back in. Needless to say, my vehicle was the only thing in the parking lot.
Cold, windy and misting.
Found a spot to hide from the wind and dropped a line to wait it out. The cats and reds kept be busy enough to ignore the crappy situation but I’ll definately be paying more attention to the tide.
I’m surprised they dont see this as a safety issue(liability). If there is an emergency there is no way to get off the water. In todays world, this is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
A family is out boating. A child has a life threatening injury. They call 911 and have the ambulance meet them at Bushy Park boat landing. The boat gets stuck in the mud trying to get to the ramp. The injured child dies while waiting for the tide to come in. The family files suit against the DNR for not properly maintaining access to the boat ramp. The DNR looses the law suit. Tax payers have to pay the settlement and they close Bushy Park boat landing. Remove the docks and tear out the ramps. Everyone looses.
the night of the boat parade i came back in 1 hour + of a -.4 tide and my jonboat almost didnt make it. there was a boat 20’+ sittin 100 yards from the ramp high and dry. NO clue what those people were thinkin
Friogatt0, you make a very good point. I had a major heart attack several years ago and open heart surgery this past July. My wife didn’t want me anywhere near there for quite awhile in case something happened and rescue couldn’t get to me.
No Dredging for Bushy Park… you heard it here first!!
Berkeley County has looked at dredging Bushy Park, the cost is estimated to be 2 million, with the likelihood that it will just re-silt in a short period of time. The barges going up river to Nucor are believed to be accelerating the silting problem.
I have it on good authority that DNR is seeking a new piece of land, within 1 mile of the current landing, to install a new Bushy Park (Saltwater access)boat landing. Freshwater side will not be affected and could benefit from some additional parking. New site will have better ramps, better docks and more parking. Estimated to cost $400,000
The hydrologists believe there is no way to stop the current location from silting in. I started launching there in 1968 with my Father and can tell you it started silting in long before Nucor showed up. Accelerated; yes, but it was inevitable.
2 mill for a temporary solution or 400K for a more permanent fix (with better parking) Sounds like a no brain-er to me.
This information comes from State Representative Joe Danning who has been looking into this matter for some time. Thank you Joe!!
If this sounds good to you please tell Berkeley County Council, anybody in authority at SCDNR and your State Representatives and Senators that you support this idea!
SCDNR is leading up the project, Representative Danning mentioned they do not have a time frame right now but are moving forward (finally).

Thanks for this update. As qp said, we (SSWA) did do some legwork to raise the visibility of this problem to the local legislators. Also had a consultant come speak to our board about some of the issues. So, I feel we are fairly informed of most of the issues ( physical and political). Wish we were able to have more
