.While with the Gamecocks, Evans was a driving force in recruiting P.J. Dozier and Sindarius Thornwell

An assistant coach taking bribes to influence players towards certain agents, yep, busted alright.
Are there any pictures with players holding a huge wad of cash?

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

The FBI usually has solid evidence before they make an arrest.

Kim said the investigation involved hundreds of recordings and wiretaps with the assistance of a cooperating witness. He said the defendants were “circling blue-chip prospects like coyotes” and exploited them to enrich themselves.

They have the proof. Both these guys are finished and may get jail time.

I’m curious what actual crimes were committed? Steering someone in a certain direction isn’t criminal IMO.

There is the rub. what crime? I’m not saying there is not one. I just dont know. obviously this is against NCAA rules.
And if we are being realistic, this happens at most schools for many sports.

It happens in all walks of life, If someone calls me for an offshore charter I have guys that are willing to throw me a little cash for sending them their way. /is that illegal?

I think technically that is illegal fritz. Maybe not, but what I do know for sure is these 4 coaches guys work for state funded institutions, that’s the rub. They are not allowed to take handouts in anyway. I sell into higher education I hav to sign a letter from my company every year stating that I will not engage bribery while engaging with those institutions.

So those will probably hold up on the assistant coaches but not sure how can it hold up foe the othe 6 who don’t work at the schools.

I do find it funny that two upstate media outlets are the sources quoted regarding a USC incident. Very convenient.

While I believe USC will have to answer some questions on this matter because of its former employee, I do not believe USC will face much if any discipline. The timeframe outlined in the evidence shows the majority of Lamont Evans’ wrongdoings happened after his tenure at USC. Before any taters try to jump on me about this (because taters apparently are still obsessed with everything USC even though they’re the college football national champs), let it be known that I’m not a USC fan and note that I said the “majority” of the wrongdoings happened after Evans’ tenure. In the charges, he’s recognized as Oklahoma State assistant coach. Quite frankly, the school that should be worried the most is Louisville. This could get “SMU-like” for them.

Fritz, I believe the laws broken here pertain to Federal statutes on bribery and wire fraud (conspiracy, solicitation). Some of these schools involved were receiving Federal grants and that seems to be a big sticking point as it pertains to these assistant coaches’ prosecutions.

The FBI was UC on this for three years. They have documentation and physical recordings. This is going to rock college basketball.

God bless the “ignore” function.

the second link is about an ex Clemson player not the cocks…

Also, the timeframe was while he was at USC. The affidavit reads the was trying to provide access to Thornwell and Dozier.

But good news for now is it does not look like they took any money.

That said this is going to get a whole lot bigger across the country.

I heard the UNC basketball team isn’t going to the White House this year. They are just going to say they went and take credit for it.

This will spread to other college sports as folks start to rat out others to get a deal…

Better hope Dabo is running a clean program because it’ll prolly get looked at by the Feds at one hint of something dishonest going on… It’s not like it would be the first time either…

UNC released a statement about not visiting the WH. They said it was merely a scheduling issue and not a form of protest. The WH offered three separate dates but none of them worked for UNC and the dates UNC suggested didn’t work for the WH.

They can still say that they went and get credit for it though, it's the UNC way...

And the first coach to lose his job out of this is from…The ACC…
