Cajun Anchor or Stick It Anchor?

I had a Cajun anchor that worked great for many years but lost it when a buddy forgot to attach the anchor line before he proudly torpedoed it into the mud. Can’t say that I’ve had any complaints about the Cajun anchor but I’ve heard people rave about the stick it anchor pole. Any advantages of the stick it anchor over a simple Cajun anchor?

Don’t know if this will hep you or not but…

I have 2 “stick it”. 8’ and 10’ and like them both. Easy to use and darn reliable. I don’t own a cajun anchor but have used them on some of my buddy’s boats. They work fine as well.

One plus for the Stick it is that it won’t roll around your boat like a cajun anchor will and it’s lighter. But…it is longer so that’s something to weigh out. I use the 8’ on my 1720 and it does not get in the way and has plenty of holding power. I use a 10’ dockline to attach/tie off with.

I’ve only tried the stick it and it works great except in hard sand. You can’t just push it in the sand. Doesn’t have that problem in pluff mud though which is where you will use it most of the time.

I would imagine the Cajun anchor would work a little better in hard sand.

That being said I got a power pole and its WELL worth the money!

I’ve got a stick it and I love it. Get the bracket for the back of your boat I use that a lot when wading flats.

Out of curiosity what size boat would one of these hold?

I have a stick-it anchor pin that holds my 25ft Carolina Skiff. I have the biggest one you can get. I can’t remember if it’s 10ft or 12ft. It’s my anchor of choice inshore now. Worth every penny I spent on it. As for the hard shell bottom, I have a short peice of 2x2 that I use to hammer it down when I’m over hard bottom. It works very well and doesn’t seem to hurt the pole at all.

I carry 2- 8’ stake out sticks. Love them. Usually just use one on a bracket on the transom, but if the boat wants to spin I use the second one tied to a mid ship cleat. I almost never use an anchor in shallow water now.

I also have two 8’ Stick-it’s on my old 21ft boat. I don’t use a bracket. I have 15ft dock lines on them. They hold well near slack tide in soft bottom. Not great when the tide is ripping.

Thanks for the replies. I think I’ll give the stick it a try based – sounds like no complaints other than anchoring on hard bottom. One day I’ll get a power pole but this seems like the next best option.

It’s not impossible to get it to penetrate hard bottom, just needs some “encouragement.” I find spinning it while pulling or pushing down on the handle helps a lot. Once it breaks through that “crust” it goes right in.

I tried to use my stick it anchor last night… Current was too much I guess… Pole bent over pretty hard, rope slipped off and never saw the pole again… What am I doing wrong? I probably should have tied the rope on better, but I wasn’t expecting that reaction… Do they only hold in slack current?

so you lost it on the 1st plant in the new boat?

Caught a lot of fish with a Dansforth tied off to the bow cleat. I’ve got the longer Cajun anchor in my shed. It’s a heavy piece of metal, and it rattles around in the rod locker. Started wrapping it in an old towel to quiet it down. I use it when I’m specifically going to certain places where I don’t want a lot of anchor line in front of the boat…generally up a creek in tight quarters. I originally bought it as a stern anchor, but eventually went back to a 15# mushroom…you don’t have to yank it out! Power poles and trolling motors look nice on somebody else’s boat, but I don’t like the look for my classic Mako.

That is correct.

I’ve never been in a current strong enough to pull this stick out, unless the water is too deep for it. It holds my 19’ boat in any current. The bracket is much more secure than just a line, it keeps the pole vertical and doesn’t allow it to pivot.

I took a 8ft galvanized ground rod, cut six inches off the top and had it welded like “T” handle. Coated it with that spray rubber from HDepot and used the stickit clamps to hold it. I have it mounted across the beam in the back of my polar skiff and it rides nice and sticks well. Cheap alternative.

I use a Cajun anchor on my 17edgewater,as far as anchor rolling around in boat,I put Mine In rod holder on side,I have been stuck many times and I just throw Cajun anchor out pull myself out May have to do this several times but works, permanent mount anchor can not do that,Cajun anchor

Poor mans power pole. I have a stick it and love it. Once you get it stuck in the mud it holds better than a toss over anchor.

I’m wondering if I can make one out of 1" that will hold a 21’ Sea Hunt CC. All of the one’s I can find online seem to be made out of 3/4".
