Left house by myself ( did have Buddy the Dog as first mate) around 7:30 pm this evening in search of schooling jacks in Calibogue Sound, While it was not slick calm, very little wind so sound was pretty smooth. Just as the sun was setting I headed up between Buck Island and Harbour Town and found a tightly packed school of around 20 large jacks circling on top. After about 8 casts with a 10 weight fly rod - hooked up ! Fight took about 90+ minutes. I finally landed fish, breaking my flyrod reaching for the tail . Not sure I want to tangle with another 25 to 30lb jack on a 10 weight- 12 weight definitely needed . Those fish are very, very strong. I will sleep good tonite
I have some friends who have found them pretty often in the same area in the mornings and evenings. Great fish for topwater lures on spinning rods or on fly. Hope to see you out there.
