Calling out Requiem, Aquatic Therapy, etc.

Apex Shark Fishing is calling out Requiem Fishing, Team Aquatic Therapy and any other shark fishing teams in the state. There’s no doubt Requiem fishing has been the top team out of SC for the past 4 years and props to you guys for your success. We want an opportunity to prove ourselves this season and what better way than a little in-state competition?

Here’s the set up:

4 day tournament running from May 19-22 of this year.

-Must be fishing in South Carolina waters.
-Pictures submitted with clear view of shark length and mystery item chosen by the apposing team.

-Depending how many teams are interested and what you guys would prefer here are some potential options:
-Largest shark in total inches
-Total inches caught (min shark length 4’)
-Most sharks over 5’

My vote would be for total inches, but I am open to suggestions.

As far as putting up money we would be willing to put up to $500 as an entry fee, but were open to other suggestions as well.

Anyone or any team is more than welcome to join in. We are down even if we only have one other team participating.

Hopefully I get some responses…lets make it work.

Whole bunch of rules to go over and lock in!

Agreed. This is just a general outline. Easy are you interested ?

Not me! If I catch a shark, it’s by accident[:0]

How 'bout it Pete, you up for the challenge? I believe we could take 'em!
You’ll have to spot me $250 though.

“OLD DUDES SHARK FISHING TEAM 2017”

We can nickel and dime um to death, 200 6 inch sharks:smiley::smiley::smiley: In all sincereness I’d just cut them a check and avoid getting shamed. Good luck shark boy’s.

Well let me start out by saying we are flattered to be included and called out by name but this season is going to be very busy for us. We are working with the SCDNR this year doing some research studies on Blacktips. Although I always enjoy a friendly tourny we are going to have to decline. Maybe next season if we are not involved with any research projects. Land Based Shark Fishing is a amazing sport that we would like to preserve for generations ahead of us. My advice to any new group of anglers targeting sharks is to just be smart, clean up your mess and respect to fish. Knowing how to properly handle different species once on the sand is key. I’ll continue to post my reports during the season. Look forward to seeing what yall post this year!

I can’t speak for the rest of Requiem but I personally have no interest in tournaments right now. After the Blacktip Challenge fiasco and how much negative publicity it brought to the sport, it is my personal preference not to post as much on social media anymore. Florida is fighting bans regularly with Melinda from Sharks After Dark championing the cause for LBSF - successfully I may add.
I don’t want the sport in the spotlight as there are so many negative critics.
We will of course continue to fish and tag for Requiem and Coastal Shark Tagging Initiative - but probably will not post as much here, and on Facebook.

Well it was worth a try. Good luck to you guys this season

Dan isn’t yall’s leader Stan the representative or ambassador for south Carolina and Georgia shark fishing tournaments… Correct me if I’m wrong, I just saw it on the big hammer challenge shark fishing tournament. I heard he fought to get south Carolina in the tournament and other states. The only place to register in town is at Seabrook y’alls favorite fishing spot. I thought y’all quit tournaments because of the photos fiasco y’all had in the one tournament?

Stan started a new position at his job and works 60+ hours a week - he barely fishes right now due to the amount of hours he is working. We are hoping that changes.
4 of us are headed to FL for a week the last week of April first week of May to fish so that is probably going to use up alot of wife brownie points for tournament fishing for the majority of us

With the formation of the non profit we are focusing on tagging and research more than tournaments. I’m actually headed to Seabrook today to see if anything is biting!

You should try Mikkel st. The water is warmer down there right now. Seabrook is a sandbar shark haven. You should fish the inlet and yak it to the middle on the hump in front of deveux banks.

@40inchreds

Dan’s mention of 60+ is an understatement, typically its 70-80 hours a week. While I did fight to get BHC expanded and am able to help Will with minimal duties - I also agree that we don’t want to end the sport with too much publicity. When I started, like many it was because of Josh “BlacktipH” Jorgensen. Josh was inspirational and since we were in a different state I too thought posting everywhere and making it more than a hobby was a good idea. Then it hit the fan in FL, we took plenty of backlash here and now I think this sport is better off without tournaments. Its a shame because I am extremely competitive, but the repercussions of having many teams fishing the same spot, or many people fishing all day and night because of the tournament, it just winds up poorly.

Plus FL has exponentially more coastline than we do, and half of ours is private as is. Do we really need to have more beaches shut it down? Its very clear that public opinion says its dangerous, even if it isn’t. We don’t have a Melinda challenging all of the bans for us, so its best to post your pictures sparingly, and fish away from people if you want to be able to continue doing this for years to come.

Hope that made sense, Im home sick with the flu from probably working too much =/
