Camp Chechessee '18

On Saturday we’re heading down to the Beaufort area to stay with my in-laws for a week for this year’s “cousin camp” with my wife’s extended family on the Chechessee River.

Most of the kids are between 3-8 now, so they’re at good ages for some fun on the river. I’ll update this thread with pictures as we (hopefully) get into some action…

Well, less fishing this week than planned due to boat issues. My 5 year old son and I have been out a few times and done ok. Highlights include a 18” red drum on live shrimp on a Carolina rig, 15” flounder on mullet minnow, and a 20” red drum on mullet minnows. Lowlights include breaking off a big black drum right at the boat, and a toadfish… some rat reds and croaker in between. Pics to come.

Seems to be less shrimp, and smaller ones around this year? Also, not one trout so far…

Nice catch. I’m sure your son really enjoyed it.

all about the pics…

Few random pictures from the week. My boy had his first experience driving a boat by himself. Also, I did wind up catching and releasing an ~18" trout on Friday. Was a great week and we’re looking forward to hopefully coming back for a long weekend during shrimp season!
