Does anyone know any good spots to go camping? I am looking to take the wife out this weekend and we’ve been looking for a spot to take the boat and fish and camp out at. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also just a side note, went out Friday night giggin and the flounder were everywhere. Ended up with 11 flounder and 2 reds, biggest flounder was about 22"!
A nice camping spot on Sunset Rd on ladys island. Just look for the yellow fire plug on the left. Pitch tent on lawn. Has running water. Watch out for the grumpy old fart in the house.
Thanks Jig. We’ll give it a try.

Good campground at lands end, can’t recall the name. Someone remind me. The place on sunset is now off limits for camping. Grumpy called me last night and was all huffy about me posting his yard as a campsite.

any tips for a newbie? have you ever done it off a beach or in sand? what kind of light setup do you use? thanks for any info.

blue,
i have used many different lights. Such as led headlights from walmart, under water and above water lights. one light i used to use was a brinkmann starfire 2. it is an underwater light and if used above water it will blow the bulb. they are 250,000 candle power each and i used 2 of them and sometime 4. the best thing about them was they didn’t draw very many amps so you could run 4 of them on one battery for a long time. i am currently using clamp on lights. which can be purchased at walmart, grayco, beaufort boat and dock, and just about any hardware store. i cut the plug end off and put alligator clamps on them and put a 50watt 12 volt blub in them which can be purchased at any of the above stores as well. i have gigged on mud, sand, oysters and grass. sand and oysters work the best because the water is going to be clearer because the bottom is hard. i like to gig on the low tide a few hours before and after, but i have also had luck at high tide as well. you should go out during the day at low tide and find some good sand and oyster bars and then go back at night and try it. if your aren’t seeing fish sometimes you can just wait for the tide to start moving again. what i mean is if you go out when the tide is rushing out and the water is stained you can wait until the current slows and starts to come back in and it should clear up a bit. i have gigged reds in muddy water where you couldn’t see but a few inches though. i’ve had them running into the boat and actually get stuck underneath the boat also. hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks a ton skinny. By far the best info I’ve gotten from anyone yet. I actually ordered 4 of those starfire lights monday, so I’m glad to hear someone has used them and they have worked. Thanks again for the info.

yes they work great, just keep them in the water and dont let them hit an oyster cause they will shatter pretty quick. ive had them hit sand and mud and stumps and hold up pretty well though.
