New to the area, west Ashley to be exact. I don’t have a boat or kayak so I’m looking for shore access for some reds/trout. Not really a fan of piers but I’m blown away at the lack of shore fishing here. Any help would be appreciated!
Post up/read the surf/pier forum , lots of good info there from top fishermen.

Buy a boat.
Then you will be blown away by the lack of ramps in the area.
That’s the plan, but I need to fish a little in the mean time lol
Make some friends, join a local fishing club, post in the fishing match up section…shore fishing around here is not very good for the most part. Need a boat.

There’s about a thousand walk to places if you are willing to put the time in and look for them. Seems like a lot of people come here looking for hand outs; you usually won’t get them.
What have you tried so far and what are your expectations? What worked for you back in Ohio?
May all your favorite bands stay together…
I just moved here Friday afternoon from California, I’ve been hitting the google maps as a starting point but a lot of the shoreline looks like private property. Never wanted a handout, just looking for some advice or if shore fishing was even possible here.
Welcome to South Carolina UCEAST. Have you considered fishing the surf? Unless you don’t like the sand and sun. Tons of fishing opportunities. This time of year everything is biting.
Thanks dparker677, I will be hitting the surf when the rest of my rods get here. This new area is just a little overwhelming lol
Did you grow up in California or Ohio? Salt or fresh?

In California, mostly saltwater fishing but in the winter is fish the local lakes for rainbow trout
Here’s some of what I caught on the other coast
What kind of fish is this? Looks like a world record whiting:smiley:

The guy just moved here, and was asking for basic advice.
I’m sure if he wanted an internet bashing from a prick with 20,000+ posts he’d have asked for that.
Don’t worry, since he’s asking about bank or surf fishing your ultra secret “spots” like the coal tipple and the jetties are safe.
How many “spots” have you nabbed using the bent pole pattern? My guess would be all of them.
PM sent to UCEast
I’m not from Ohio lol, I just got here Friday and I’m itching to fish. That was a Corbina which is similar to your whiting but ours get a little bigger. I was just looking for someone to say there is some shore access and I’ll start mapping and see what I can find. I’m up in west Ashley and I’ve looked around here a little but am not finding anything. I’ll try the surf after this big weekend.
