yes sir.the boat was a friend of my fathers who fishes rivers and surf for stripers from obx north to maine.they were in the navy together.these trips were among the last i had with my father.i love that river.my father caught a couple of bigguns also on that trip.there were others also that were smaller.the merrimack rules though.forgot to mention-both fish were released fine.
Wow…I klived not far from that river for 3 years and had NO idea that it held stripers that big. Then again…I was pretty far upstream. Lie and learn I guess. Again…nice fish.
some of the biggest stripers in va have been caught in that river.wayne retired from the navy and settled around there.but,we fished many areas up and down the east coast.you should see the chesapeake pics i have.they are older and in poor condition so i didnt post them.i will have more pics later. there are big fish here to be caught here also…
roanoke is the latest hot river.although it has been for awhile.want to go in the spring, but funds are tight this year.im already going to long beach island this year, probably in july.i fished the roanoke years ago and it was good then.definately a hot spot.better stock up on barbless hooks, and take plenty of money for bait.they say it is expensive.they only allow barbless hooks during the spawn to ensure low mortality rate.have you ever been to weldon,nc?what are the rates for accomodations during this time?high i bet.the plus is its not too awfully far to go.-just did a search for weldon.its close to the va line.motels are about average, but will go up when fishermen from 300 miles around hit this area all at the same time.i still think this could be a makeable roadtrip though.bet it would be worth it for the story and pics you could bring back.gotta check on license fees and regs.get back at ya.
Calibogue- Is that a deceiver that you were frailing upon the water?? I’ve tried shrimp imitations and some streamers with no luck.
I do OK with catching striper in freshwater, but no luck in salt.
2 different rivers, one of which is talked about far too often on this site by those with far too little knowledge.
The photographer in that first pic is dam good. Look at the centering…taking the attention off your ugly mug and onto the ________ R. rockfish. Pure genius, I say…
