Yes. But when you’re the “face of the NFL” or the “face of a franchise” who pays you handsomely, you have to man up.
But there’s talk now of the real reason he left the podium. One of the Denver guys was yelling insults in the interview next to him, and he walked away from the interview because of it.
When you take a kid out of college, put a few million dollars in his hand, make him a celebrity, and ask him to play football, the last thing I personally expect from them is to act like an adult. I mean, that would be nice and all, but I don’t think it’s reality…
Also, I seriously doubt that many of them want to be the “face of the NFL”. They do the bare minimum that they are contractually obliged to. Just ask Marshawn!!!
I’ll tell you what!!! Matt Ryan is a lot more mature than Cam Newton. If guys can work out a trade, I would be on board with that!!!
Jeez dude, do you EVER take a break? You might want to seak (seek) some counseling for that man crush you have.
As for Newton. He had an awful lot to say BEFORE the game. Sorry, I don’t think of a 26 year old as a kid. Men younger than him have lead troops in to battle.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
I really don’t have a problem with the press conference. What kind of news conference has a player from the team that just beat you being interviewed right next to you? He should have stuck it out and answered the same stupid questions over and over again, but I can’t really say I blame him. He wears his emotions on his sleeve good and bad and I assume as he gets older and has been in the league longer he might become more of the robot we are used to with the successful quarterbacks. With that said I do have a problem with how he acted out on the field especially not trying to dive on his second fumble.
It’s age. They’ll mature as they hit their 30s and be more man about it. There are folks who were born to athletes (like Peyton Manning) who know the protocol and have been graceful winners or losers from day one.
Cam reminds me a lot of Tom Brady in his 20s - when he’d lose a regular season game as well, he’d walk off without shaking hands with the winning QB. But the same Tom, now nearing 38 gladly acknowledges defeat, congratulates the winning QB and leaves the field. Hell, he lost in the AFC championship and yet showed up for the NFL Honors yesterday!
Also in Cam’s defence, those post-game conferences, especially with the losing team/QB is a big joke. It’s always the same ol’ pish - same stupid questions “can you tell us what happened when you threw that pick?” and the same dumb responses - “as a QB, it’s my job to protect the football”, “we were outplayed”, “I promise we’ll get better”, blah blah.
Sorry, I don’t think of a 26 year old as a kid. Men younger than him have lead troops in to battle.
Oh, so you think physical age brings about maturity? Comparing Cam Newton to a disciplined soldier is apples to oranges.
Again, picture yourself coming out of college, at the age of 21, $5 million per year dropped in your lap, an icon in college football, national recognition\celebrity status, and more naked ladies wearing your jersey that you can shake a stick at. Do you honestly think you would quickly mature in that environment?
Back then, if you put that on me, I would have been lucky to be alive today… Granted, I’m way more mature now, but as a 21 year old I did some stupid stuff and I sure as heck was still doing it at the age of 26. If I had the fame and fortune that he had at the age of 21, I think I would have self-imploded…
We should create two football leagues… In one league, we have the most mature players regardless of their skill level. In the other league, we have the people that are actually the best at playing football, regardless of their maturity. And then let’s compare ratings at the end of the year… And let’s talk about which one you guys watch on TV…

That's not what I understood... I think the Denver player was being interviewed and they asked him about the game plan and he said something along the lines of "Load the box, and see if they can throw the ball" or something like that. It didn't sound like an insult to me. It sounded like football 101 strategy. Cam just didn't want to hear it.
Skinnie, I didn’t know being 26 and making $5m a year excused you from doing your job. That team needed him, and he walked away. Walked away from the fumble, and gave up in the 4th quarter because he is selfish. The interview isn’t as big a deal. It just solidifies what we already knew about his character. The actions on the field are what is inexcusable.

Yeah, nice straw man, but that is not what I was discussing. I was talking about his immaturity during the interview, and shenanigans on the sidelines. I can't tell you why he did not jump on the fumble. Did you speak to him about it and ask him why he didn't do his job? Maybe you should try out for the team next year and see if you can win the super bowl.

People just want to hate Cam, so they come up with reasons. I really can’t see why people are upset he walked out on the post-game interview. Does anyone even watch them?
Does anyone want to go in with me to launch the “MFL” (Maturity Football League)? The teams are really going to suck, but the maturity will be electrifying to watch on TV!!!

I ate a lot of dust in fumble drills from peewee, to small fry, bantam, jv and varsity football , you were taught to quickly jump on the ball. Cam failed miserably. They wont remember the smile, only the one that was too much of a sissy to hit the ground after the ball.
NFL wanted Manning to go out on a high note so they hired some ACC officials to call the game in favor of Denver
Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
I don’t have a favorite team and I think the best team won but I would also say Carolina got shafted by several calls that night. I still don’t see how the first challenge was not overturned. The secondary was allowed to get FAR more physical then I usually see it called and several blatant PI’s were ignored.
