Carolina Style Flats Build

True craftmanship there! So very nice to see in this day and age of mass produced chopper gun boats.

Bilge area starting to come together. A little more plumbing and electrical work and this area should be done. Also got the glassed, fared, and painted deck support web installed above the bilge area but forgot to take a picture.

The past few weeks have flown by. We installed the fuel tank and glued in the sole and interior sidewall pieces in last week. We also built the deck hatches and laminated them to the deck. This past week we glassed the underside of the deck and fared and painted the deck in the rear bilge area. Deck is going back on tomorrow and then things should start to pick up. Boat will be finished by end of August!

You are talented. That is looking awesome!

that is bad ass- can’t wait to see the final product and hear how it rides

Thanks for the comments. Im planning on bringing the boat to Charleston for some pictures the second weekend of September so if anyone want to take a ride just let me know! Tonight we glassed the deck, interior, rub rail, and hatches and applied a flood coat to all. Tomorrow the fairing party officily begins!

wow what amazing work!

Well since the last update its just been a lot of faring, sanding and filling sanding and filling etc. We are about 90% done now and have just a few things to finish up before we start spraying primer on Wednesday. Top coats are scheduled to go on Saturday and Sunday and then non skid next Tuesday. So with that being said it should look like a real boat this time next week, haha.

On another note, we have decided to attend the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show in Oct. to introduce the boat instead of Miami. We will still attend the Miami show in February but if anyone want to take a look sooner and your at the show in Oct. look us up.

Thanks

Absolutely beautiful! I know the kind of effort that goes into a project like this and it’s been a joy to watch it come along without having to deal with all the skinned knuckles and fiberglass itching! Very nice housekeeping in the shop as well I’ve noticed. Can tell it’s a true labor of love with you folks.

In your first couple of posts you estimated around 1500 lbs and a 90 pushing her you still think she is going to be about that weight? Maybe a 115? Also are you going to rig her with a trolling motor connection or a poling platform? Any updates on the bigger boat?

Yes to everything. Still should be around 1500 w/ a 90. The 115 will only push it about 2 mph faster and weighs more. It will be getting the poling platform in a few weeks.

Tonight we applied the Alexseal finish primer. One final round of sanding tomorrow and then to the final finish!

Beautiful!

Want to see that baby in the water. Been watching the build. Nice looking rig. This is about the stage I would want to start with customizing. Maybe some teak in the floor, platform, and casting platform, no trolling motor, power pole xl, and a hds 10! Contemplating color; blood red hull, marsh grass khaki deck! Black motor.

Hurry up and put your money down on it so he’ll listen to you.

what a boat…

Wonderfull work! Do you use only electric sanders as seen in the photos? Nice clean well orginized shop!

boatpoor, we use both electric and air depending on what it is. We only use the tools to start on each layer of compound though. Every stage of fairing is finished by the good old hand block technique.

Here are a few pics of the interior and exterior paint. Each has four coats of alexseal top coat. Couldn’t be happier with the finish. The yellow looks a little lighter in person. The boat will really be changing its looks this week as we add the non skid, teak, and stainless so stay tuned.

thanks,

Tonight we applied the Alexseal non skid and started fitting the stainless rub rail. The wide glossy area around the sheer is where the teak toe rail will go.
