Cart Opinions

Im looking at two carts at two very different prices (about $60 different). The smaller is more or less the size of a Fish-N-Mate Jr @ 38x18. The bigger and more expensive of the two is 48x24. For those of you with carts of different sizes, do you think that the smaller one is adequate? I would like to save the money if possible. Or is the bigger size worth an extra $60? Thanks!

I bought the Fish n’ Mate jr. about 12 years ago and I love it. Plenty big enough for me. I take a cooler, 5-gallon bucket with cast net, tackle box, bait, 4 rods and sand spikes. It depends on your vehicle and your needs. It’s short enough that I can lift it fully loaded into the bed of my pickup by myself.

I’ve got the fishing mate I think. It has more rod holders on it than I’d ever need. I take a large tackle bag , cooler and a fold up chair. The little rigging station /basket is actually quite handy sometimes. Personally id go with the smaller one bc you really don’t need to take much. A few rods, small cooler with bait, spool of mono for making rigs , hooks and sinkers are all you really need.

Thanks fellas! I’ve been using a large wheeling cooler with storage I made but it doesn’t quite hold everything and I HATE having stuff sitting in the sand

Depends on what cooler you want to put in there. I started with the cheap 100 cart, and after one season it fell apart completely. Lesson learned and paid for the real deal.
What is worth the money is the poly tires.

…don’t hate me…but… I’ve been doin’ this surf fishing thing for 35+ years? without a cart. On a typical fall trip I will have 4-6 rods with spikes, bait cooler, extra tackle, snacks, a 9 quart cooler with cold drinks, if it’s HOT ( I use frozen water bottles, no ice to buy), a towel, dry clothes, a chair, umbrella, small shovel, gripper gloves, tape measure, fish scale, hook pliers, bait knife…maybe a few other things down in the bottom, most of which is on my back. Bundled rods in one hand and either drink cooler or spikes in the other. Have had to pack it a couple of miles, no problem. Most walks are short though.

Having said that, I do have a kind of carrier I use when I have guests, bigger cooler, more chairs etc. But all my gear is still on my back.

Can strap a bunch off junk on it. Folds up flat. Small tires have not been an issue.
