Tore my nice cast net today. Does anyone know if any one does repairs around charleston? I call the angler and they said no one does. I’m from Alabama and there are net makers every where! Please help.
How bad did you tear it? I do my own repairs with a piece of braid. Once you lay the net out flat it’s usually pretty easy to sew it up.

Not to bad. My plan is to do it my self if I can’t find Any one. I was going to use mono to repair it. Didn’t think about braid. One of the main lines that run up the middle are broken at the top. Don’t know if I can fix that correctly.
Also what test braid are you using and what knot are you using?
you can fix it if you’ve got a little patience. For tears, use mono similar to the rest of the net, not too big or you won’t get the knots tight enough to stay put. I’ve repaired mine w/ 17# because that’s what I had laying around, but I think most nets are probably made with something more like 10#
For the braile line (the big one in the middle) use heavy mono, ~100#. Tie it to whatever the rest are attached to at the top (may vary w/ brand of net), let the net hang to get the right length, and then tie to the rope at the bottom. I use a Uni-knot with just a couple of turns so it’s not too bulky.
don’t really need it, but it does make it a lot easier to repair the mesh if you have a mesh gauge and shuttle. Don’t know where to get them locally, I made ones to fit my net with some scraps of polycarbonate I had laying around.
If the tears aren’t too bad, you can just tie the intact meshes together, not as pretty but works for small stuff. problem is that it tends to make your net bunch up in that spot, and the repaired area will probably tear again under any tension.
hard to find good info on the internet, I guess it’s somewhat of a “lost art” to most people these days. Check this out for some basic knots and repair strategies: http://www.fisheriescircle.com/files/Fiskericirklen/Fagboger/PDFer/Fishing%20gears/Fishing%20gears%20kap-3.pdf Good luck!

Thank you very much for your help. I will be repairing it this weekend.
nice reply, wolfie!
I use red cajun line and put a drop of super glue on each knot when you are done. Hard to find the clear line knots. I find mono being stiff is a lot easier to tie the knots. I have also used dental floss - just triple knot it. Braid should work to. The floss and braid is limp and aggravating to tie the knots IMO. I threw a new 8’ betts blue on a 3’ stingray on the first throw of the new net. 'bout 140 stitches to fix it - but it still works 4 years later.
