Up2nogd,
You can thank the gentlemen with the post above me for the cat. He probably took that porch crappin’ animal to your neighborhood and it became a boat crapper…Problem Solved.
UP2NOgood, Gotta a couple of simple ideas to fix the cat problem for you.
-
Get some duct tape tear off pieces about 12 to 14 " in length and lay the duct tape upside down on the boat where the bastards are getting in and out. Cats hate duct tape cuz once it sticks hair gets pulled out. Promise you it will work and keep your 10 yr old happy.
-
If that for some reason does not bring any resolve to your situation call Animal Control Services and tell them to bring some traps out and set them to catch the cats. Will only take a few days and off to the pound they go and your 10 yr old will still be happy.
Hope this helps!! Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the help! Here is the current situation:
- Sprinkled stink’n stuff around boat
- Put a few pieces of Duct Tape in the boat
- Ordered a Trap
- Waiting on the Ultrasonic
- Jug of Antifreeze on deck just in case!
And I’m with Skirt Chaser on this one - anybody that has trapped and relocated any type of pest - PLEASE - forward your address I will be happy to repay the favor!!![:0]
And if I use the antifreeze - here is what the paper will read!
Mt. Pleasant man arrested today for animal Cruelty - law enforement agents found a 1/2 dead cat poisoned with antifreeze, caught in a trap, wrapped in duct tape and deaf from being tortured with an ultrasonic device. The man will be required to serve 90 days in jail (April 15th - June 15th - fishing season)) pay $250,000 (have to sell off all my fishing equipment) to rehabilitate the animal and the boat the animal was found in will be donated to society of Kittens so that all cats will have a place to mate and live happily ever after!!! Yep that about covers it!

Lots of tough guys wanting to kill the animals or hurt them in some way. Kinda makes me sick to think that some of you would do something like that to an animal thats just being an animal. Blocking their point of entry cannot be that hard, I would think a Contender would sit fairly high off the ground. Also keep in mind the things those cats do for you in the neighborhood that you don’t see. This is what one of my cats brought me this morning.
And since everyone is being toughguys you may want to think about whose cat you may be hurting. Regardless of its getting into your boat. Some one might just go crazy over you hurting their animal. you kill their cat and they start screwing with your boat and the next thing you know you are offshore fishing and realize a thru hull fitting or 3 are missing. All over a cat getting in your boat.
On another note I keep my boat at a marina and all sorts of animals sleep in it from time to time it appears, all I have ever done is wash the footprints off and go about my day, I;ve never thought about how to get rid of the “problem”
Good luck with whatever you do and I hope its a peaceful resolve to your situation
Hey Capt - I really appreciate the response BUT
Could you answer me a few questions about your cat.
-
Where did he kill the mouse? Your property, neighbors property, or perhaps 2 blocks away? Do you know where it has killed everything it brings up?
-
What if I liked to have a few mice around can you please keep your cat off my property - or if that was my 10 year olds pet? Would that be okay?
-
If my dog came over and dropped off dead “stuff”, limbs, trash, crapped etc. on your door step - would that be okay? You know make you have to cleanup before you could use your front door!
-
What if my dog came over and killed your cat - I mean you did say that the cat in my boat was just doing what animals naturally do right?
Let me answer these for ya – Hll NO! you would’nt be!! Why is it that a cat is the only domesticated animal that can roam free in a neighborhood, take up residence in a 1/4 million dollar boat and all Cat owners think we are suppose to be OKAY with it? It really pisses me off that I get up every morning with paw prints all over my truck, cat junk in my boat and cat crap in my flower gardens but I’m suppose to be okay with it! Yea - my Contender sits high off the ground and comes with a pretty big payment book as well. FYI - I paid $3000.00 for a cover to keep it clean - Hmmmmmm. Let my dog drift out of my yard, bark 3 times or god forbid kill something and my homeowners association is all over me. Can you and everyone else that owns Feline say the same - again Hll No!! I don’t think anybody on this forum is trying to be a TOUGH GUY but truly understands what a pain in the butt it is for people to allow these things to roam and do whatever they will. No, I’m not going out tonight with a bag and a shovel but Its not out of the question. I will leave you with just one thought - if you really had to keep your cat on your property all day everyday the same way dog owners have to control their animals could you do it???

Just go got get a trap from Tractor Supply, catch however many you can and haul them off. Don’t get people all riled up over it, just take care of it.
Agreed! Life is Short!

Where did he kill the mouse? Your property, neighbors property, or perhaps 2 blocks away? Do you know where it has killed everything it brings up?I have a fenced in yard with dogs on both sides. Karl killed that mouse under the house or near the marsh at the back of the property
What if I liked to have a few mice around can you please keep your cat off my property - or if that was my 10 year olds pet? Would that be okay?have you ever seen mice procreate and at what rate they do that? I doubt he killed the last one.
If my dog came over and dropped off dead “stuff”, limbs, trash, crapped etc. on your door step - would that be okay? You know make you have to cleanup before you could use your front door!I enter and exit my house thru the garage. I also find oversized loads in the front yard all the time but don’t cry about it. lifes to short right?
What if my dog came over and killed your cat - I mean you did say that the cat in my boat was just doing what animals naturally do right? If my cat was just hanging out in my yard and your dog came into my yard and killed my pet, probably nothing would happen just like a few months ago when the exact thing DID HAPPEN to a family member of mine. You would get a ticket from animal control for dog at large and pay attention here, IF YOU CLAIM MY CAT WAS ON YOUR PROPERTY, I WOULD GET A TICKET FOR ANIMAL AT LARGE AS WELL, Have you called ANIMAL CONTROL about your ‘problem’

Lighten up already…the sooner you realize that everyone has their own way of doing things and you are not always going to be able to impose your will upon them the sooner life becomes much more simple…btw, I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the # of cat owners I have seen put tape on thier own cats feet over the years, and yes every time it was funny as hell!..Oh almost forgot, (not that I am condoning it) the easiest way for him to solve his problem and the cat not suffer involves hot lead but we all know how you feel about that…

Hey Capt. Fritz - sorry for the heated response! Very Bad week at the office! Here is the deal - if I wanted to Kill the cat(s) rest assured that would not have been a problem. Like yourself and most others on this board, we hunt, fish, trap etc and a cat, well wouldn’t be much of a problem! The reason I posted was simply to see if anybody else had a “civil” way to deal with this.
Hopefully we can all agree:
With regards to Cats - they go where they want and do what they like. The owners have very little control once they are let out to “play”! Ask me how to keep a dog from digging, barking, jumping etc. - multiple solutions. I would ask all cat owners (and future owners) to think about what has been posted and realize that Your Little Darlings are really a Pain in the Butt to others around you. When the neighbors dog leaves ya a good one in the front or wakes you up in the middle of the night - just maybe he is getting even!!!
What I found is there really is no one “Humane” solution that has been proven to work. It appears that many on this board have tried with some success and I will use their suggestions accordingly!
NOW
It looks like the Ocean is finally going to settle down and allow a few Boats to fish. Soooooo lets turn this back into a fishing forum and if you see a 36 Contender go by stay outta my wake or look out for Flying Fur Balls!!!
Can I fly a Kitty Flag?
Thanks for everyones help on this!~
I’ve gotta work Saturday but would love to see a few Good Post!!

I had the same problem with my uncovered W/A in my storage yard. I left the cabin door open one night, and closed it right before i took off to the ramp. when we backed down the engines about 20 miles out i heard an odd noise in the cabin. When i opened the door a pissed cat jumped out and whent for a swim.
The joke was to rescue him with some rubber bands and a J-hook for shark, but the kitty wanted no parts of getting back in the boat… Problem solved
I can tell you first hand the Charleston Animal Society’s policy as I dropped off a feral cat I had trapped yesterday.
A cat (wild or a pet, don’t know) had a litter under a neighbor’s porch this summer. I trapped two kittens with a homemade trap and they were young enough for the CAS to try to rehabilitate and adopt. Very nice looking cats, jet black but I don’t know how it turned out. They had calmed down the weekend they were in a cage in my house so hopefully they made it. But they will be spayed/neutered.
The other kitten’s got wise to my home made rig so I used a knock-off Hav-A-Hart trap for 20 bucks from Harbor Freight. Had to adjust the trigger tension so it was more sensitive. Got one Thursday night and brought him in yesterday. The only choice was spay/neuter and release or euthanasia. Cat was now too old to socialize. I didn’t want him in my yard (have to release within 100yds of capture) but not one to needlessly destroy an animal. Agreed to the spay/release (no cost to me). Didn’t matter once I mentioned the cat scratched me. I was adjusting a clip and he nailed me through the cage - tiny scratch but enough to draw blood and the cat’s death sentence. He had to be put down and tested for rabies. I was strongly advised to see a doctor and got a script for anti-biotics and what to look for for cat scratch fever. Am waiting for the rabies test now. Healthy cat, not sickly at all, so I am pretty sure it won’t be rabid.
Bottom line for wild cats - young enough to rehabilitate they will try, older spay/neuter and release or euthanasia. If the cat attacks and has no proof of rabies shot, he will be put down.
I blame cat owners who feel they can let their fertile cats roam freely adding to the feral cat problem. Oh, on the same day, two stray dogs came up to my daughter as she got the newspaper. Two big sweeties returned to their responsible owner who had appropriate tags with a phone number.

a true example to show problems caused by cats and cat owners.
i was taken to court 3 times over dogs barking by the same neighbor. the 1st 2 times he no showed. the last time video evidence showed he was letting his cats out to free roam at night and they would walk back and forth along the top of my fence and drive my dogs crazy. i also had letters from our other neighbors stating that my dogs weren’t a problem.
case dismissed and he was threatened with jail time if he ever filed charges again.
back then he was the only northern transplant in our neighborhood.
leave a sabiki tipped with tuna on the floor of the boat.problem solved.

I had a job as a kid years ago in a local marsh front restaurant that developed a rodent problem. The exterminator used these cardboard traps with thick, sticky goo on one side. The animal got stuck on them and basically just died from starvation/dehydration. I stuck one in a coworkers hair as a joke and we had to cut a huge patch of hair off his head to get it loose. If you could put some some of these aboard they would stick to the cats. The owners would have to darn near shave these things off their beloved pets. Maybe that would make the pet owners a bit more aware of where their animals are and take on some greater responsibility. If they get angry just relate that you had a “pest” problem on board…“and by the way what was your cat doing on my boat?” The animal has no real harm done and the owners have a great time shaving Mr Nibs/Dribbles/whatever.
Just so you know, you can release those glue traps by pouring cooking oil on the victim. Still a nasty, messy procedure but it will work.
sealevelPete
Thanks SeaLevelPete. If I had known that 26 years ago it would have saved me a lot of “looking over my shoulder paranoia” that summer. I still think a bunch of half hairless cats with sticky traps stuck to them is just a little funny.
