Catfish

I have a quick question. I’ve lived in and fished Charleston all my life, and up until six or seven years ago catfish, like the gafftopsail catfish, were almost as regular as whiting on the end of my line. Why am I not catching them anymore? Anyone have any clues?

I never kept any of them, but I literally never catch them anymore so I can’t help but wonder…

I believe that I read somewhere about a virus in the Atlantic catfish species. I know that they are now completely protected from harvest. I bet an online search could get the answers.

I just noticed that they were prohibited. I’m moving back to the area after being gone for 6 years, and was a bit surprised.
