Its fun, just read up, and give it a try! Thats what I did a few years ago and had a lot of fun. I havent targeted them in a couple years though. Its rewarding to get your first one when you have targeted them specifically. If you hook up a big boy its a rodeo! EXCELLENT table fare too…

DFreedom, start with light as possible, Hook and mono with a mosquito hook 1/0 and the biggest sinker within 2 or 3 inches of the hook to hold it down. I have now moved to Carolina rigs with about 12" of leader and it works. AND best thing about yesterday NO PUFFER FISH, one big oyster toad though, almost a lb, took drag haha. Hope this helps, a good place to start is Mt. Pleasant Pier, they are smaller but will give you an idea of what they feel like.

Bart, nah these are caught somewhere other than the pier. I have found a spot where I can throw the boat in, hit a plan for about a minute, turn the engine off and fish for as long as I want haha, then repeat to get back to the boat landing. I fished Mt. P pier about a month ago caught 3 and they were all under sized. I like catching at least one for dinner, so if they are all small I am usually not satisfied. Just glad the puffers weren’t bothering us the other day. I think we are going back on Sat and Monday of this weekend and next week
