Charter Recommendation

I’m down from Canada and vacationing in Hilton Head this week. Weather looks pretty calm and I’m thinking of taking out a charter. Any recommendations on a boat/Captain and a species to target this time of year?

Inshore or offshore? If inshore then Capt. Herb Renard is the man. 843-784-6607 or 843-224-1423

Capt. Dan Utely, AKA Fishin’ Coach Charters is also excellent.

You can’t go wrong with either one.

Thank you Capt. Larry. Will give one a shout.

Also for inshore I highly recommend Danny Rourke. He grew up here in Beaufort and knows every water way and fishing hole. Really nice guy too. Call him at 843-263-3863. I see him at the docks many days on my way to work. This is a good week for fishing.

Got out for an afternoon with the Fishing Coach. Tough fishing but we caught a couple of redfish early. Great to see the low country ecosystem up close. Thx for the recommendations and hope to come back soon. Come on up north for some trophy Lake Erie walleye and Lake St. Clair Musky (and cooler weather). See my related forum @ www.longpoint.on.ca/forum .

Kind Regards,

stomp

Glad you had a good trip. Capt. Dan has been doing it for a very long time and he’s very good at it.

Thanks, but I like it hot and I don’t go north of the Mason Dixon line

Stomp, The eco system is a true treasure here and we are spoiled. glad you got a taste of what we have.Friday ran out to a grouper hole and caught some nice ones for a great dinner last night. Today ran around with the kids pulling them on the raft with pods of dolphin running all around the May river. Hit me up with a PM when you come back if you want to ride out with us for something a bit deeper to get some bottom fish or a few pelagic. Always welcome folks who want to go.

Classy reply!

I have an open invitation for some of those walleye and perch I need to jump on.

Stomp, holler ahead of time before getting down here again.

Thanks for the kind offer tridogs. I hope I can do that in the very near future, and if I do, PM will be on its way. I loved my brief time on HHI.

And DoubleN, come on up for some walleye action! Maybe not for ice fishing, like I was doing off of Toledo through 2+ feet of Lake Erie ice when I landed this beauty. February here might be a little much, but right now is prime walleye trolling time on Lake Erie.

Hey Stomp! Good to see another “DY” fall in love with the Lowcountry marsh and saltwater fishing! We’ve been hitting the Lucy Creek area in the fall for about 20 years and really look forward to our annual trip in Oct.

Super nice 'eye through the hard water too!!! Will have to keep you in mind if we ever decide to hit someplace other the charter fishing out of Michigan City. We get just enough ice down Lafayette way to make it out maybe a time or two during our winters so wouldn’t mind hitting the big water/big ice sometime either

I grew up in Minnesota and have ice fished it from one end to the other. Always caught the biggest walleye through the ice. Never made it to Erie though. Lake of the Woods was just too close.

All things being equal, I would rather be on the water.
