I’ve probably casted at 20 with a crab pattern, but never had one bite. Usually get frustrated and smack em on the head with the fly, then they spook.

Sometimes a tiny dot of cheat-meat will seal the deal.

Richard, you sure do take some fine pictures :sunglasses:

X2! I once took out some clients from GA Sportsman magazine who were determined to do an article on catching barracuda on fly rods. We went out to an artificial reef that was loaded with cuda and made 5,000 casts without a bite. The fish would follow the flies all the way to the boat, but wouldn’t hit them. It was getting late and they still didn’t have a fish picture to show and asked me for suggestions.

I asked the mate to put out 4 Clark spoons and we trolled around the reef a little bit and picked up 3 Spanish and put them in the live well. Then I went back to the buoy, hooked a live Spanish on a fly rod and told the celebrity to chunk it out to the buoy and hang on. 10 seconds later, fish on. Fly rod yes, fly, not exactly. They got their pictures anyway

yep, I’ve had a sheep on the flats follow the fiddler fly to the boat & then wave goodbye when he saw the boat, the fish never tried to hit the fly, just followed it a couple times. gigging sketches me out, my luck, & i’ll stab the **** out of 13.5" fish right as the DNR is pulling up to scope out my views on the 4th amendment, lol

I think a cameraman will be needed on your boat during any fishoff.

That’s nothing new. I’m still wondering what you are so afraid of? If being in front of a camera makes you SO uncomfortable, we can scrap it. I just thought it would be a great promotional tool for the circuit to document Charleston’s #1 guide in his quest for tournament success. It might even get you a few speaking engagements to bloviate on all of your infinite inshore wisdom.

23, do me a favor…

Use your “Lasso Tool”, grab the background of that Hawk picture, and drop the exposure a Stop or so.

It’s great picture, but it appears to be missing the top of it’s head.

Blame it on my OCD.

I don’t know much about lasso tools and exposures, but I know that’s an Osprey, not a hawk. Blame it on my OCD too

LOL, I know what you mean. When I get around to editing these for the website, I’ll adjust accordingly. I usually downgrade the quality for this website anywho.

I'm still wondering why you think I am afraid to fish in a tournament? It has nothing to do with being afraid. I've done it and didn't enjoy it so I've never done it again. I know you are passionate about it and that's great, but there are thousands of people that don't fish tournaments in this area. Are they all "afraid" as well?

Might want to revisit the Google.

That’s cool, Fritz. You don’t enjoy fishing tournaments, and that’s fine as tournament fishing is not for everyone. I don’t remember anyone but you denigrating the circuit though.

I googled it, and it sure looks like an Osprey. I see they are sometimes referred to as a Sea Hawk, Fish Hawk, River Hawk and Fish Eagle.

Kinda like calling Collards, Greens, I guess:smiley::question:

Cool post/pics regardless.
