“A rose by any other name”… Redtail hawks, chickenhawks, sparrowhawks…
quote:Might want to revisit the Google.
I did, just for you. An Osprey is a single genus, single species bird, much like a cobia, it has no relatives.
quote:Some authors use "hawk" generally for any small to medium Accipitrid that is not an eagle.[1]
The common names of some birds include the term “hawk”, reflecting traditional usage rather than taxonomy, such as referring to an osprey as a “fish hawk” or a peregrine falcon as a “duck hawk”.

quote:Taxonomy and systematics
The osprey was one of the many species described by Carolus Linnaeus in his 18th-century work, Systema Naturae, and named as Falco haliaeetus.[2] The genus, Pandion, is the sole member of the family of Pandionidae, and used to contain only one species, the osprey (P. haliaetus). The genus Pandion was described by the French zoologist Marie Jules C?sar Savigny in 1809, and is taken from a mythical Greek king, Pandion.[3][4][5]

If you would like to quote sources from Wikipedia from the same time they thought the world was flat and blood letting was a cure for disease… go for it.
An Osprey is a Hawk… the same way a Red-tail, Red-shouldered, Sharp-Shinned, are etc…
Great pic of an Osprey. They are better at fishing than all of us combined! My favorite experience of one was being at the tailrace with 40 other boats not catching Shad when one swoops down, grabs a 4 pounder then flies it two victory laps around all of us dumasses
