so, even though walmart sucks, I wanted to share that they have lots of lures and line on clearence in the fishing section. This was at the MP store. Gotcha plugs at 2.00, spoons, soft artificials…stuff like that. A deal is a deal, though I’d much rather to spend my money locally. I picked up a few. If I can’t fish yet in this crap weather, I’ll just get the tackle box ready…

I threw a Chinese stone. It made me sick and fell apart before it hit it’s intended target. But, it was cheap.
Actually I buy some freshwater stuff there. Our local shops just don’t have enough selection on fresheater baitcasters or lures. Although if its available at HPT or the angler I get it there…
I was their the other night the people were as cheap as the tackle…i pick up a discount rod bent the rod to check it out the eye fell off whatta bargian. Was some nice clark spoons there but i’m to cheap to spend the money if the hook is only screwd in halfway discounts all over…grab it up while you can mt.p just stay clear of me

Yeah, thats what I’m talking about! I don’t think that I’ve ever looked on the package a new lure came in to see where it was made? I’ll bet that at least 90% of what you buy in any store was made in China. Pretty soon all you will be able to catch will be Chineese fish anyway. Even if you made your own lures in the garage, where are the components from? I do see patronizing a local business and not a place like WM though. Having said that! If I am in WM and happen to walk by a deal, I’ll buy it. After all the kicking and screaming about buying Stuff from China or a Big Box store, turn what you are typing on over and look where it was made. Did you buy it at Best Buy? Look at the tag on your shirt! Where was it made?

I’m sure the thing I buy are not china-free, but where the Walmart issue is different is that they exploit those working there as well. So, yeah globalization finds the optimal price point for supply and demand but when the vendor takes advantage of your neighbor’s ignorance of fundamental employee/company relationships, you should not support them. Its been discussed and the bottom line is Walmart has grown big enough to create markets by forcing vendors to lower price, which they do by lowering wage among other things, which induces the need for their employees to seek out the lowest price… and it spirals to death by walmart.

My dad works at Walmart. In the sporting goods section at that. He lets me know when there are some killer deals 
Of course their tackle selection is garbage for the most part but I get stuff like jigheads and some soft plastics there.
sidenote question - is abu garcia gear total crap these days? I see plenty of it at Walmart. It’s not on clearance, just wanna see what ya’ll think?

the bcx is crap no matter where you buy it from…i have bought a couple of 7000s from there.they were cheaper and can’t tell the difference from others bought else where.
I prefer to do business with the local shops, but just thought it was worth pointing out that a lot of the fishing tackle sold at Walmart is in fact made right here in the US.
I get my weights from captain Stan at the Ladson Flea Market, literally get at least 10x the amount of weights for the same price or cheaper than WM or any of the local shops. Nice guy and great prices.
