Heading up to Cherry Grove for a couple of days anybody ever fish that area?
I’m up that way now, have fished the Cherry Groove surf a bunch. The beaches up here are pretty flat most of the time. For surf fishing in Cherry Grove I would have to say just south of the pier, outside of the swimming/surfing/pilgram zone; 34th ave. to maybe 20th is pretty consistent for troughs and holes. You will need to do a bit of scouting near low tide and pick some decent looking spots. Keep in mind as well, you probably won’t catch any Red or Black drum or Specks. And Shark fishing on purpose is a no-no. But there are tons of Fat Whiting, Spots and Croaker and sometimes you’ll get into some Weakfish. Also, if you don’t mind paying thru nose, get some Blood worms, the big Spots luv them.

Thanks. Have you ever fished the inlet our condo is up at that end?
Hog Inlet fishes pretty good on a falling tide. Trout, reds, flounder, and a good many sharks hang out and work the area. Shrimp and finger mullet are my go to baits up there. Best place to get finger mullet is the bridge to the public boat ramp.
For flounder, cast a live FM as far upstream as you can in the inlet and bottom bump it out to maybe 30 yards outside the mouth of the inlet.
good sized reds and sharks, big mullet chuck out past the second breaker
trout, shrimp under a popping cork. you’ll have to wade through a bunch of ladyfish
Boat drinks, Waitress I need 2 more boat drinks!
Hog Inlet is a hot spot for Big doormat sized flounder…in the early spring; April-May. When the water warms into the mid to upper 60’s they move in to spawn. Never fished it in the summer. I’m sure it is full of Sharks, Blues and Ladyfish right now. I’ve fished that stretch of beach from just north of the pier to Briarcliffe 25+ years? NEVER hooked a Red or Trout. Not to say I’ve really tried I guess. Big Reds are caught off the Cherry Grove pier in the fall not unlike our piers in the low country. Up here though, the bait of choice for the surf is Blood worms. Weeds through the fish you wouldn’t want to eat.
Tell ya what I’ll do. I’ll go up there in a bit and take a few pics. Heck, I’ll flip out a couple shrimps and see what’s bittin’.
