chris v boat leak question

i posted this a week or so ago and u asked the kind of boat i had and never replied back with any input. is there a particular reason why not?

ALright, have had a small boat leak for a bit now that has me quite perplexed. the leak was recently compounded cause float when out and swamped the batteries but that aside there is a slow leak that normally the bilge and float take care of over time but cant seem to figure where leak could be coming from. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to trouble shoot. no obvious holes in the hull but i have noticed when we fish live bait that when my live wells are running my bilges tend to be working a lot more than when they are not runnning. My thought is that maybe a crack in one of the hoses etc, but dont understand why or how that would leak if when sitting in the water and not on that it would draw water. the boat is a 28 ft cc with two live wells, fresh watre washdown, salt watre washdown etc pretty typical center console any insight or help would be appreciated. Also just in case not assumed but boat stays in a slip all the time.

I’m not Chris V, but my guess is a leak in a live well hose. Leaks slow all the time, but more when put under pressure by the live well pump.

Check hoses and hose clamps. Look especially at the intake area, below the waterline. May want to look at your seacock too, not a likely source of a leak, but possible.

unfortunately, I dont have the time to read, track, and respond to everything posted here. I try, but some slip through the cracks.

I just went back and read the old posts.

the other guys gave you the same advice I would have given

you are gonna have to get the hull dried out, and spend some time in the bilge, looking for the water source

chris i appreciate you getting back i understand things slip thru the cracks but i found it a little curious that in my original post i mentioned that my boat was a 28 cc but i dint mention the brand but then u asked what kind of boat it was and then i received no follow up after i told u it was a triton 2895. probably the only one you had worked on before(which u mentioned when we dropped it off) unless you have in the last year worked on another one. yes we have figured out the leak and solved the problem since that post and as you can already figure what i am about to say is that you were hired, paid to fix this problem about a year ago on my boat for this very same problem, the pick up water vent/screen leaked thru the holes where the screws were placed. as you can imagine after looking back and talking with the person who picked up the boat for me, you charged us for a thru hull fitting to solve the problem but instead took the short cut route and rescrewed it in maybe with 5200 maybe not because he was htere to pick it up and you hadnt fixed it yet. So fine you did a poor job and i have to deal with that but dont answer an ad with a question in order for you to figure out whetehr or not yuou already knew the answer becasue you knew the exact boat and the exact problem you worked on before. a lot of people rely on your work here and trust that it is good and you are a stand up guy. i dont doubt your work is good because other issues i was happy with but dont scrape and sidestep a subject because you realized it was aproblem you messed up on thats not fair to the board and to the people that use htis board for information in order to obtain reliable service from mechanics.

:face_with_head_bandage: ouch…reality check

… posted “a week or so ago…” actually 17 days ago, which is 2.4 weeks.

I wonder if chris v actually did the repair 2.4 years ago vs. the “about a year ago”.

I’m gonna go ahead and sound the bullchit horn on this one.

WAIT. That reminds me. Maybe this guy is right. Chris V, you changed out a racor for me 2 years ago and I checked it last week and it had water in it. I’ve probably only ran about 2400 gallons through the thing so it should still be good. I don’t use Startron or Stabil either so THAT can’t be the problem. I wanna know what you’re gonna do about it little mister!!!

Chris V,

Two years ago I had some monofilament around my prop shaft, and after removing the line I was worried about damaging a seal. I communicated with you through email and you assured me that everything was OK, and I should just go fishing.

Well I followed your advice and went fishing, but didn’t catch anything. Then, to add insult to injury, a couple of months ago I found more monofilament wrapped around my shaft.

I blame you for this and want to know what you intend to do about it?

I have no idea what your name is, or what we did to your boat. I work on between 4 and 7 boats everyday, so I dont always put boats and names with screen names, and recall all 100+ boats we work on every month durring the season

from the tone of your posts at this point, it sounds like you were trying to bait me into something. thats fine, I am an easy target. the whole charleston fishing community sees what we do, and we try and do it well. do we make mistakes, sure, I dont know anyone who doesnt, but we will fix the problem, But
Did it ever occur to you, to pick up the phone, send an email, send a PM, or even, put in your original post…“boat leaking, hey chris, I thought we had this fixed, what gives?”

had you done that, I would have said bring me the boat, and I will fix it for free, unless its something new. If we install a thru hull pick up, I can assure you, the screws were installed with marine sealant.

If you email or PM me your name, I will be glad to pull up the date of repair, and what we billed you, and if you think what we did was substandard, I will refund you the cost of that portion of the repair, but I gotta ask again, why didnt you just call me at the store.

oh, by the way, if a generic question is asked, and other guys answer the question like I would, lots of times, I dont answer. we have a bunch of pretty bright guys on here, so if I dont answer, and you want me specifically, send me an email, or a PM, and I will respond.

OK, now that that’s settled, what about me and Itch?

I demand restetution, respiration, resusitaion, constipation; you know what I mean!

The least you can do is repay me for the cost of my email!

I bet there are 100 guys who would vouch for Chris on this site.
I don’t know him, but he has helped me on more than one occasion on CF.

I do not know Chris V, but my father who recently passed away was a great and well respected mechanic in eastern NC where I grew up.
He made a great living and put all his kids through college by “turning a wrench”. People and dealers sent him work from far away, he got the jobs they couldn’t “straighten out” ,if you know what i mean. He also specialized in carburators and high performance Chevy work, winning all over the country on the drag strips and his carbs were on Nascar engines back in the day. The point I want to make here is, I know a good mechanic when I hear one speak and this guy (Chris) is extremely good. Over 5000 post and one guy not happy is not a bad average
Sorry for the long post

Rick

I appreciate the support guys, but lets not lynch him. He may have a legitimate beef. He didnt handle it very well, but okay, we still need to determine what to do from here.

This thread has absolutely irritated the heck out of me.

I have $25.00 that says fishsc19 will not be a man and contact chris v regarding this matter. I have another $25.00 that says that the original work that fishsc19 contracted with chris v occurred over a year ago.

The money will go to the American Cancer Society and I am hoping that Penny, aka penfishn, will be able to accept it on our behalf.

Penny,

If this goes nowhere, please contact me via PM so that I may send you a check anyway. I did not help you back in April, and I would like to do so now.

I’ll throw in another $25 that Chris V will never reimburse me for the email messages that went back and forth after the infamous “mono” incident.

PM me Penny. Chris, I’ll make the donation in your name so you can get the write off.

Chris, there was no tone for baiting you into anything. you have missed my whole reasoning for my frustration with you over this post. before we solved the issue and made the first post that everyones was helpful in troubleshooting you replied to the post with what type of boat i had and then never replied back once i told you the brand. I am not a mechanic but the type of 28 ft cc i wouldnt think would be a major isse in disecting the problem. so after spending a bunch of time going thru all the fittings searching for the cause etc(by passing the area you had worked on little over ayear ago (by the way im for usc the boat had only been in the wtaer once after he worked on it and for week in the slip before the post(ie was on a trailer out of water)thinking that it couldnt be that issue since you fixed it. I am fine and understand that things dont always get resolved when worked on but as i stated before i was not the one who picked it up so after three days of searching for the problem my buddy reminded me after i told him that i found it strange that you asked what kind of boat but thenm never got back to me on here about it, that you were the one that he took it to to get it fixed and that when he was told to pick it up he showed up that part hadnt been done and that he waited a little bit and then you all had it taken care of. so the point of this whole thing is that whether you took the time to help with the question on the post and then realized that it was this same boat you worked on, conviently asked a question that would single out the particular boat, and then never to be heard from again concerned and irritated me because i assumed you had fixed hte problem before and that was not where i needed to look. but like i mentioned previously i understand things dont always get resolved and corrected/fixed everytime somebody tries to and ther are no gurantees but the questionable response to original post of what brand of boat since i hadsaid it was a 28 cc and then to never reply back again concerned

I just checked all of your non-archived posts going back to July of 2007.

You have given chris v a total of zero good reviews since then.

In fact, in all of your non-archived posts, you have started a total of 21 threads asking questions or asking for help.

In those 21 threads, you have received a total of 95 replies.

You have also never thanked anyone.
