If you forced me it would be a yami…do the yamis need valve adjustments…i think they are belt driven…

they should be checked and yes on the belt, just like 50% of the cars on the highway…i am at 900 hrs right now on mine…waterpumps are the only thing besides oil/filter and plug changes that i have had to do…

i have been told the belts are easy to do.

these motors have lasted longer than 2 hulls and about 10-12 t-top welds…

Yeah…I’ve seen some 4 stroke Yamis on other Charter Captains boats running pretty rough…but Yamis are the best 4 strokes out there no doubt…I want something that smells…pollutes the water…and has to be pumped before starting…just old school…I am a 4 stroke hyper sensitive…

I like my 200ox66 but I don’t like the fuel economy.

21 Contender

carbed yamaha, but they love fuel

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Are the ox66 efi or carbed? what is the start up like?

One of my best friends owns a boat sales engine repair business. Done so for 20 plus years. I wanted to upgrade from two stroke to four stroke. His recommendation was only yamaha then he talked me out that too. you want crank and go…stick to a two stroke his reply.

I have a 2002 OX66, 250 horse, Saltwater II on the back of my boat. I’ve only had it since September, but I do like it. Never had an issue starting it up. I’ve even forgot to pump the bulb once or twice. It is not carbed, and for a two stroke, is pretty good on the gas. For instance, I can leave Remley, go to the near shore, then to some spots about 10 miles out, doing drifting, go back to Remley, and maybe use 1/6 of a tank or less. My tank is 105 gal., BTW. My boat is 22’ and I can get to about 38 - 42 mph on the water, depending on how heavy.

EFI, I think the carb motors were pre '99 or'00. EFI starts a little quicker than carb.

What about the EFI control units going bad?

I'm on my third ox66 and have never had one go bad. Feeding clean fuel is the biggest maint. item. Low press. pumps 2 yrs., hp screen/cleaning 1-2, filters 2x yr., based on ~300 hr yr. They do not have the charging capability of the new 4s and will load up w/lots of slow trolling.
