Making up a wish list is always easy for me, but buying for another sportsman can at times be hard. Here are just a few gift ideas; some that are quite obvious, others that may not be. Perhaps this list will help you figure out a gift for your fishing partner or give you some ideas to put on your own list to Santa.
-
Weather Station – Price Range is from $30 to $300 plus depending on features, this item is on the top of my list this year, I like the ones that provide wind speed and direction, current barometric pressure along with pressure trends, and moon phase.
-
Fillet Knife – Quite simply you can never have enough knives. Personally when I clean fish I may use up to 3 different knives on 1 fish – one to skin, one to fillet, and one to cut bone. Folding knives are nice if you fish on multiple different boats or for travel, light weight flexible blades are great for skinning, serrated edges are great for cutting through bone.
-
Knife sharpener – Got to keep all those knives sharp!
-
Foul Weather Gear – See filet knives above! Again you can never have enough rain suits. I prefer a light weight suit for the summer, heavy weight with a fleece liner for the winter, a nice coat for work or other events and a nasty old suit to keep in the boat as a back up. Don’t forget a camouflage suit for hunting. I prefer bibs over pants any day of the week because I tend to stay drier in bibs and they not only stay up better, but are more comfortable. I also like neoprene cuffs to keep water from running down the sleeves with Velcro closures.
-
Terminal Tackle – Hooks, leader, and weights – these items are expendable and therefore a fresh supply is always helpful.
-
Flashlights – See fillet knives and foul weather gear above… like I said you can never have enough. My most recent purchase is a led headlamp excellent for hands free knot tying, or rigging when overhead light is not available or ample.

Tackle boxes, - See flashlights, foul weather gear and knives above. One for fresh water, three for salt
