Take off the coot glasses, b8.
BC hasn’t played Clemson yet- the others have.
FSU had 13yds rushing on us… in 4+ quarters AT FSU.
You can believe that FSU is just terrible at rushing the ball and that Clemson’s rush defense isn’t good if you’d like. You are correct in that statistically, FSU is not one of the best running teams. I’d suggest you consider the possibility that at this point, after Gurley torched them late in that game, we have a great front 7 and depth, however, and if you’d watched them play it’s pretty obvious that they are playing very well. In position, playing disciplined and tackling well.
BC is “5th in rushing” by playing the following teams, btw…
UMass
Pitt
Maine
CoSU
NCSU
USCThe only ranked/respectable team in that bunch was USC, which BC put up 450yds rushing against.
Kind of an anomaly, don’t you think, when BC only rushed for 142yds in their LOSS to Pitt…?
Pitt defense holds them to 142yds but USC lets them get 450yds? Seriously???
USC had an all around horrible game at BC. I remember seeing the highlights and thinking, “Dang, they weren’t tackling worth **** there.”
We play BC every year, and every year it’s a hard fought game. We aren’t flying in from the PAC12 thinking we’re going to win just because.
The way I see it, Clemson is going up there with something to prove- because nothing’s been proven by this team yet this year, and they are fighting to get into the
So… let me get this straight.
I’ve said somewhere that Clemson didn’t go to Athens or Tally with anything to prove?
and
Loading the box because you know a certain QB can’t throw it deep that well is different from loading the box because you know a certain QB and offense are predominately runners?
Huh???
We loaded the box against FSU. We beat FSU everywhere but the scoreboard. The team learned from that.
We will load the box again against BC because they are a running team with a running QB.
And as much as you want to rely on stats, all I did was offer stats to counter your argument. In addition, I will again tell you that watching Clemson’s defense play, I am confident that they are significantly improved over earlier this year, and past years. We have not had the kind of LB play we have right now since some of Reggie Herring’s players, several of whom went to the NFL. Venables has been earning his paycheck, and we finally have more than just one or two good 2nd level guys who can get off blocks and get to the ball against teams that we KNOW are going to run the ball for all 4 quarters. I would say we have 5-6 good players in that second level right now and that the defense is built to stop what has been killing us for the past 5 or 6 years, that is- teams with running QB’s (e.g. SC, GT and FSU). What’s more, if Steward can play this weekend, then Goodson can come out and we have 3 run stoppers backing up our solid DT and DE play. Goodson or Kearse will likely be the guy spying their QB I suspect though, because they will likely try to work off play action once we start having success against their run.

1st, I did not say you said " that Clemson didn’t go to Athens or Tally with anything to prove?" But I love how fans use that like that wasn’t the case before.
2nd, When you play a team that is a running team and is bad a passing, it is much easier to stop the run, ie stack the box. If the team is good at both, your defense has to play differently. When CU played FSU, they did not have a running QB. Again, a 1 dimensional teams is easier to defend.
So the good news is that BC is on the bottom for passing.
Well, to me, it all comes down to 1 question.
Does Clemson have a solid defense against a team with an equally adept passing AND running game that is in the top 25?
I say yes. I will go further and say the D will have to carry a struggling offense these next 5 weeks.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You keep trying to put that label on me. I assure you it will not stick.
Then quit acting like one.

Nah, twisting words to suit your pathetic agenda is laughable. Sort of like the 3-3 record Sakkerliner has.

It took way longer than I expected for you to bring up USC in a Clemson post
I am a diehard Clemson fan and usually stay out of these but this is my prediction…BC always gives clemson a tough time. Stoudt is immobile and not very accurate on his throws. Therefore BC will bring the house shut down the throwing game. Clemson is going to have to establish a decent run game if they want to win. Therefore my prediction is BC 24 Clemson 16

Quick outs and bubble screens will be our friends. How long, we’ll see.

This would be evocative if only that freshman wasn’t phenomenally talented and quite effective against FSU in that environment when he got his chance.
Losing the starting spot to Watson says more about how good Watson is than about how bad Stoudt is. Stoudt is better at certain things than Watson, and Watson is better at certain things that Stoudt- one of those being playing more instinctively rather than by the book. That’s why Watson didn’t start against UGA or FSU. Stoudt didn’t have to play Saturday against UL and take all the heat. He did it anyway with a hurt shoulder instead of giving up on his team and coaches.
Remind you of anybody at Carolina recently?
Hint: he’s got a bald head!

phinfreak and 7cs, I think you are both right. Have to be able to run. And that bubble screen is tough to stop. I don’t know why, but I hate that play, even when my team does it.

A top 5 QB in CFB as a freshman…but yeah Cole has not played great.
I could be top 5 against acc opponents. And I only played 3 years at QB

The ACC has better defense than the SEC this year.
But i’m sure it will be spun that the offenses are just that much better considering all the high scoring games in the SEC.
