What happened to Global Warming?
It got stuck in the melting ice and had to radio other ships begging them to burn more fossil fuel for a rescue…
Actually, extreme weather (both hot and cold) are caused by global warming. Expect more extremes!!

Even though I agree that the global warming thing is not as big a deal as they preach. It is getting just as annoying that there is a “global warming” post every time it gets cold in the South.
Anyone that has grown up here and hunted or fished in the winter can attest that the winter was much colder for longer periods of time in the late 80’s, early 90’s, MUCH colder! That being said, I think it is just a natural change in climate that the Earth cycles through. JMO.

Good news. I just saw on the news today that you can pickup Al Gore’s book, “An Inconvenient Truth” for $1.00 now. Now we can al learn about global warming, straight from an expert.

Or, just wait for marshgrass to explain it on CF for free:smiley: RWL if it annoys you that much when you see the Subject line, don’t read it
The nice thing is I can read it and tell you its annoying. What fun would it be to just not read it?
I think it’s annoying, that you think it’s annoying:smiley:
I just hope I’m alive to see my kids working in their Canadian Peach Orchard as we come out of this last Ice Age.

Ah the great Al gore, creator of the internet. That guy alone is reason enough to not believe in “global warming”.

I find it interesting that people are quick to question and debate “global warming” or climate change. However I never see any debates about sea-level rise.

In particular, notice http://sealevel.colorado.edu/files/2013_rel8/sl_ns_global.png .
That graphic shows the rate of sea level rise according to the best available data, satellite altimeter over the total period that we’ve been collecting SL data from satellites. Note that the overall slope of the data has not changed since the beginning. Ergo, the rate of sea level rise has not changed.
I like ‘rate of sea level change’ as a proxy for climate change. There are so many inputs/drivers in our climate/heat/gas exchange system that it is very difficult to tell what is weather (short term stuff) and what is climate (long term stuff). Sea level change seems to be a good proxy because both freezing and melting of water/ice require a lot of energy. So, you don’t get a lot of ice/water phase change unless you have real persistent changes in heat/energy. That buffers out the more transient noisy stuff. If you are getting significant changes in sea level change, then something dramatic may be happening. Well, we don’t see it. Satellite altimeter data (the best sea level data available), shows a steady rate of sea level rise of about 3.2mm/yr., far below the alarmist model based predictions. Ergo, we’re not drowning. And, the climate is not as fragile or easily perturbed by CO2 increases as the alarmist assert.

I do not believe in global warming. But the theory behind it is average temps. Not todays weather. It is annoying to see global warming used when it gets cold for 2 days just to go back up to 70 degrees the next.

The data correlates very well with the sat data you showed but does however show an increase in rate of change when examined over a longer time frame (back to say the 1870’s). Something to ponder for sure.
Maybe benchmarked off of tide gauges. But, the lasers in the altimeters are not ‘calibrated’ using tide gauges.
More to the point, the tide gauge data has been corrected numerous times over the years. Some of the ‘corrections’ are accompanied with no usable explanation. That’s why I go to the best data set available, the satellites. No, they don’t go back as far. But, as far as they do go back, we’re not seeing an acceleration in the rate of rise. It’s been pretty stable.
All the while, global CO2 emissions have continued to climb dramatically. If sea level rise was that closely connected to CO2, we’d be seeing something in the satellite record.

I don’t doubt that the seal level are rising and the average temps are rising, which causes the sea level to rise. This is pretty obvious to most people. I think the biggest debate on global warming, from those of us that don’t buy into it, is that it became a campaign that pushed people to do things to make billions of dollars. Things that are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but pushed to play on the guilt of humans.
These same scientist have proven that the Earth has gone through several ice ages so far and has had times of great volcanic activity, which may have something to do with entering an ice age. This data is over thousands if not hundred of thousands of years we are told. I just don’t put a lot into the data collected for the short period of time humans have been here, much less the years having the technology to collect this data to buy into it fully. I look at things in a simple way, such as, we have had very little volcanic activity for a very long time (compared to other periods). Without all of the ash being spewed into the air, I think it makes sense that we are getting warmer. They say they are seeing a rise in volcanic activity and if in the future we do have several major eruptions, then I would suspect that we will begin getting colder again.
I think it is just that simple, but what do I know, I am not a scientist!
On a side note, I did read where meteorologist were predicting this very cold arctic blast we had yesterday with a quick warm up for a short while and then a very cold pattern forming from mid January thru February. They said places in the South that do not normally see snow and ice will see it in this time period. They are predicting the coldest winter in decades for us.

I agree with your point concerning the previous ~20 years of sat data (it does not seem that the rate has changed at all). One question though…I could not find where the sea level data reported by the CU group was from (was it from a single location or was it a combination of multiple location measurements…proba
