Was at the Ross with 32 other boats this weekend. Put 3 keepers in the box before heading back in. More details in a bit.
My buddies with a 47lber. We swore it broke 50, but not quite.

So, the rest of the story…
We left Parris Island landing at about 6, got to dolphin head found plenty of greenies on the western portion of the rip there. Really wanted some pogies, but couldn’t find them. Headed to the Ross.
About 8 miles from the rip towards the spot saw a few pelicans bombing, as we got closer saw more… and more… pogies as far as the eyes could see. Had the sounder going nuts chirping like crazy. They weren’t thick, but everywhere. Loaded up, got a bucket full for chum as well. Put it back in the wind.
The ride was plenty bumpy for a 2’ sea. Got to the Ross and circled for a bit looking for structure w/o too many folks on it already. Ended up just south of the ship about 40 yards beside the Bulldog, a beautiful charter boat that after we got back to land determined was out of HHI. I’m not sure who was where first, but he had a neighbor about 10 yards north, an older Bertram os something.
The bulldog was wearing them out as soon as we go anchored.
Put 2 on top, 2 on the bottom, chum bag off the front with some weight in it, sit down to relax a second. Then we hook up, fight for a bit and lost it. Immediately another on. We’ve got a newbie trying to get his first cobia on board so he’s got the hot rods. He brings this one within sight, I drop a cool mullet bucktail with a black and green worm tail and jig it a few strokes and get another one on. Fighting two, start clearing lines… third one hits. It is on. 4 hookups in the first 30 minutes, so far all on top. And it starts to unravel. First timer lets the line rub on boat, eventually broke, the chum bag appears on top, it has all three tangled. All but one broke off. 26 lbs or so, keeper.
Slows down for us, not the bulldog though. That g
