Cobia Fishing in April

I see that the cobia fishery in Port Royal Sound is closed for the month of May. Does anyone fish the latter part of April and if so how is the fishing?

They will show up in late April if the water warms a bit. Also the first part of June can be decent.

What he said^^^. June gets real sharky as the water has warmed.

I hope the May closure is enough to get the Broad and St Helena fish back in numbers, and the correct proportion. Natural vs stocked. No inbreeding.

The way this winter’s going there won’t be any April Cobia!

Not if we keep overfishing and are catching only the Waddell-raised stock as in recent years.

Realize that the Broad River/Port Royal Sound Cobia are very peculiar an
& live only here not mixing with the offshore pelagic Cobia. Studies show that our Cobia move back offshore PR Sound & return to this estuary
to spawn. See DNA Studies by Waddell.

Waddell seems concerned regarding or shrinking gene pool as well.

We are the problem & need to be good stewards.

Don’t believe that people fishing in the Broadriver for Cobia is the only problem.

Mid April even when a bit cool you can catch them. Live eel or whiting works well. As DoubleN stated June get sharky and eel don’t seem to stand a chance with shark around.

This cancellation of Cobia in May should help a lot more to spawn.
