Cobia / Tarpon from kayak?

What are the chances of crossing paths with a cobia or tarpon in the surf off Pawley’s between now and July? Does getting a couple hundred yards off the beach in a kayak make a huge difference for running into overall bigger fish vs surf fishing?

I have caught lots of spanish, blues, sharks, etc. from kayaks just curious if anyone has had luck trolling larger baits farther out.

Tarpon are harder to come by, but trolling a few hundred yards out, your chances of hooking into kings certainly goes up drastically in the hot summer months. Slow troll/drift live menhaden or big mullet. We’ve sight fished cobia 300 yards off the beach plenty of times, but usually over/near good bottom.

Use good judgement; have a buddy yak around, pay attention to potential boat traffic.
