Combahee River

Anyone been up the river to Pub Landing (just below Hwy 21)? Curious of water depth and bad areas. Thinking about putting in at Pub Landing and running to Edisto. Appreciate all info…thanks

I fished this river for many years although not in the last few years. My best advice is to be careful from public landing down to the tea house where the river opens up to all the rice fields. Surely with all the flooding this year some trees(structure) have moved around and low tide can be risky if you don’t know what to avoid. Typically if you stay in the middle and run at half speed the trip is easy. Watch the water for swirls that indicate submerged structure. Locals usually mark submerged objects with a milk carton or something similar. I owned some property adjacent to public landing for many years and love this river. Wish you a safe trip.

Thanks wfree2fish. I just sent you a PM

No problem on making the run from public landing to Edisto. Couple of new snags in the river but very evident. Only bad place on low water with a big boat is just up from Auldbrass plantation at the sand bar which has not been an issue for several months with the higher water. When the river is down make sure you leave and return on high tide unless you are drafting very little.

As you are running the river do not hug the banks and once you pass the tea house it is free running until you hit ocean swells.

Just looked at the sand bar (google maps)you spoke of just above Auldbrass Plantation. Is there a better side of the river to travel pass the sand bar?

Thanks

Low tide with a low river run the right side close to shore or you may make it on the left side close to shore. Depending on a busy weekend you may have to make what ever spot isn’t taken by a boat your route. At present river level, you’ll have no problem.
