Finally got the boat out of the shop and decided to celebrate the 4th slow trolling live menhaden at commanche. Wind and seas were a little more than forecast but settled down nicely by 11 or so. Only two of us and the kings made us work. Pretty constant action in ones, twos and threes all morning mostly on the deeper baits. Daymaker was a beast that read 52 lbs on our deer scale and got us all excited to run over to Mt Pleasant Seafood where the official weight was still a respectable 35 lbs 4 oz! Guess they have different weighing systems for deer and fish!!! Ended up keeping 5 and a slinger mahi, releasing about as many. Great 1/2 day on the water.
hahaha I love the difference between the deer scale and fish scale. I was like dang 52 lbs then I read actual weight 35. Nice catch and congrats on getting your boat out of the shop and having a nice day
From reds to marlin you got it.

might head out to commanche wed do alittle live bait and hoo to try to entertain some friends in town without going to far out for their first trip. might do a little bottom bumping if we find some good bottom out there dont have any particular numbers for bottom bumping but i am sure we will drag over some
Nice fish man! Were thinkin about hitting commanche saturday or monday then going to the ledge. Really depends on the weather though. Hope to pick up a few kings.
I have to differ here on eating kings. Fresh king is excellent on grill and is also very very good fried. Once frozen for a week or so it is still edible, but not so hot anymore. In a few months it is not worth thawing out anymore. I think they are hard to beat when fresh though. Nice, firm, white meat and I do it medium rare. Very good with fruit marinades or fruit salsas. Also the big ones are old fish and high in mercury, The little ones are probably safer to eat in the long run. Nice fish, congrats.
We eat Kings in my house, beer batter and deep fried, cut up into chunks, fresh or after having been frozen in water, it’s all good. However the DNR suggests that you don’t eat ones that are over 33" long due to the mercury content. But if you don’t eat King too often it’s really not that bad.
When I was kid king steaks marinated in zesty Italian dressing cooked over a hot charcoal grill was a delicacy. Seems since the Internet came along, no one likes King anymore. It’s an Internet fad.
I bet some folks who say they don’t like King have never even had it, or only had it 1 or 2 times. They don’t like it because that’s what they read on the Internet.
