Just lookin for a beefier setup for when my buddy and I actually make it out to one of the reefs or doin some heavier trollin. Had some big stuff break us off at 4ki the other day. That and Iād kinda like to try trollin ballyhoo or somethin. we messed with shiny lures and got blues pretty easily, but no spanish or kings.

They make a great king reel. Between that and your surf rod, you got a pretty good trolly rig for kings on the pier.
are they pretty castable? Iāve got a beefy 7ā star rod i could use it with on the boat i guess.

Never tried to cast one. On a trolly rig you just feed it down the line. 12-Footer or Sharky may know about trying to cast one.
If the 7 ft. star is like the one I have, it would be plenty strong enough. Is it rated 20-40lb. line?
yep, thatās the one. I was usin that when I caught my two biggest blacktips this season. what kind line would be good on the tld? would like to go as strong as possible without messin stuff upā¦

Iād put on 30lb mono. It will hold 600yds +. Can add a heavier leader to that if you need it.
