Cool things on Google Earth

Here’s a boat that’s “permanently anchored” on PIP. 1/28/11 time slider @ 3217.390’N Lat. 8039.870’W Long. Don’t say you’ve had a bad day on the river unless this happens!

I can’t find the post with the coordinates of the porpoise on the mud flat. Would you please re-post? Want to show grand kids

Porpoise on the flat is at 32?17.26, -80?45.510

That is correct. Set the time slider to 1-28-11, go to 32* 17.260’ N Lat & 80* 45.510’ W Long and zoom in to about 250 ft. Even flipper gets in trouble in the river occasionally!

Distant Island Boat Ramp @ 3223.235’N - 8038.410’W on Distant Island Creek. 1/28/11 time slider & 500 ft. altitue. I’m assuming this is a private ramp and the boat storage facility across the road is for Distant Island Residents only. Is this correct?

Not in beaufort/hilton head area but found this while looking at a hunting spot, its near Sumter by the bombing range where the air force practices. The new picture is updated and it doesnt show, you have to go back to 4-18-2011 to get the right pic

That is “cool” fmb3. Seems like I remember seeing a commercial jetliner outline some time back on one of the views of St. Helena Sound near Combahee Light, but I have not searched for it lately. I think it was one of those “needle in a haystack” things that you had to be zoomed way in to find.

We’ve got a new imagery date on GE: 11-20-14. This will keep me busy for a while! Anybody know what the lines in the mud just below Laurel Bay boat landing are? They are at 27.100-48.200.

Check out the Birds Eye View on Bing Maps. Unbelievable how clear it is. Only thing it can’t do better than Google Earth is not being able to change the date.

Thanks andyb. The detail does appear to be better than GE. How do you get Lat./Long. coordinates? Now I have another way to waste time on the internet studying my favorite river!

It won’t give it to you on the Bird’s Eye. Guessing that has something to do with how the Bird’s Eye pictures are taken or displayed. But if you switch to aerial, then just right click and it’ll give you the coordinates. I’m just baffled by how clear the darn Bird’s Eye images are.

Thanks again andyb. It will take me a while to figure out how to work the Bing maps. Seems like it is getting more difficult for me to find “river time”. At least I can plan trips using tide tables, satellite maps, etc.
