Honestly, I think they should go ahead and replace him and start rebuilding instead of furthering the decline and digging a deeper hole…

The fact that the article mentions “Tennessee fell on hard times before Butch Jones was hired” is a little silly…Tennessee hasn’t been good since the Vols fired Elmer Fudd and they won’t surprise anyone this year.

Like I’ve said before, SC is in the best position to win games with Spurrier compared to anyone else. This conversation is for media attention, nothing more. ESPN is obsessed with both Spurrier and Dabo for some reason.

Paterno coached until he was 85 and Bowden in his 80s; there’s no reason a competitor like Spurrier couldn’t do the same. He will go down in history as one of the greats like Paterno or Bowden. As long as he’s healthy, he’ll stick around. SC would be stupid to get rid of a living coaching legend. And his whole family is there with him…where’s he going to go and why?

Paterno: 46 Years, 409-136-3, .749 Pct.
Bowden: 40 Years, 357-124-4, .740 Pct.
Spurrier: 26 Years, 226-85-2, .725 Pct.

Does anybody else see the decline of the coaches at Carolina? Look at what became of Lou Holtz, and now what the old ball sack is turning into. Holtz turned into a babbling idiot and it looks like Spurrier is going down the same path. I wonder who’s next? Saban???

(Funny side note: when I typed Saban in my phone, autocorrect turned it into Satan…)

Probably written by the same guys that picked them to win the SEC last year…

This article is humor at best.
Personally I wish Spurrier would hire a young OC to do the play calling. I hate how slow USC plays.

This article points out 3 11 win years and 1 7 win year. while also stating that it happens to every program.
He then points out the number of upper classmen and asks what happens in 2 years. while pointing out top 25 recruiting classes.

This is someone trying to find something to write about.

I don’t think it is being questioned that he could physically coach for a long time, but is he mentally committed to the long haul? He has said himself he wont be around much longer. I doubt he will be. I’m thinking he wants to retire while he is still young enough to enjoy retirement. And, there is also no doubt that he is the best coach USuC has ever had.

Spurrier:

“I’m smart enough to know when it’s time to let somebody else come in and do this, but I’m also smart enough to know that we’ve beaten Georgia four of the last five years, beaten Florida four of the last five years and beaten Clemson five of the last six years. We’re only 3-2 against Tennessee the last five years, and they won a couple of close ones against us, but they’ve lost 10 in a row to Florida. So I’d say we’ve done OK and have a lot more we’re going to do.”

Was that statement made before or after the statement he made about only being around a couple more years?

Well, he isn’t going to take that leap this year.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You can dissect this argument until the chickens come home to roost but I would wager one of two things will happen at the end of the season. If the coots show marked improvement, win some big games, and recruiting looks like it’s on the upswing then the hbc will be just fine. If its another season close to last year and recruiting is still weak, you can stick a fork in him because he’s done. Either or

Had Dabo lost 6 in a row he wouldn’t be coaching today. I love making assinine comments with no factual bearing.

Dabo just signed an eight year contract six in a row would not have canned him but his butt would be warm.

Because no caoch has ever been fired? Clemson paid Tommy Bowden to leave so who is to say they wouldn’t have done it again?

That was the best dang money Clemson ever spent.

There are a couple of big differences in that argument. Paterno and Bowden were coaching teams that had been powerhouses for a long long time. They have won lots of Conference Championships and NC’s, ranked year in and year out and always in the mix. Many kids would go play for those schools regardless of who is coaching. SC’s history is well, the word dismal comes right to mind. Doormat is another word that works.

Also, what were Paterno’s and Bowdens teams like the last 6-8 years of their coaching career? I think PSU had one good team towards the end? They had to show Bowden which way the locker room was his last few years. He should have been out at least 5 years prior, probably JoePa too.

So while the hbc is certinly a HOF coach, SC isn’t going to get anywhere big with him still coaching.

You’ve missed the point grasshopper. SC is better for having Spurrier. Period. SC had never won 10 games; under Spurrier they had three straight 11 win seasons.

I don’t expect to win a national championship with Spurrier, but the program is better for him. Way better, and I’ll take that any day of the week. In my eyes, he’s earned the right to leave when he wants to, not when a bunch of whiney media reporters say so.

I’ll agree with your point that the program is light years ahead of it’s historical place in college football. And I’m glad you’re ok with being able to say in several more years that back in the day we had 3 11 win seasons, beat CU 5 times in a row, and were riding high. Yes sir, those were the days.

Will you say that after another 6-6 or a 5-7 year?

Picked up two 4 star commits this weekend. I guess he will have to revise his article a little.
