costa del mar vs the rest

What are yall thought on this subject. I have had 2 pair of oakleys, 2 pair ray bans, one pair of maui jims and three pair of costas in the past 15 years. For a few years i was trying to figure out which are the best. today on the water, my long time friend(havent seen this guy in 6 or more years and we got to fish together today) and i had the sunglasses discussion and we both came to the same conclusion. After considering many things as: durability, comfort, performance, and price we both argeed costa del mar takes the cake. Agree or dis? I would love to hear about some brands that i have not had before!

I use my Oakleys for more than just fishing. From running, shooting, to normal wear they are very comfortable. I replace the lenses probably once a year. I’m a little rough on shades though. Compared to my del mars, I see no difference besides the difference in tint. I have the half jackets, and use grey polarized lenses.

I have been looking at them but cant seem to get away from oakleys I love them thats all I have ever wore not saying they are the best I have a problem with scratching them easy. A guy at a sunglass shop told me that the costas dont scratch as easy cause they are made of diff material. But I cant get away from my oakleys!!!

Well it does help that I get most Oakley products at 50% off! So I am sort of partial!

I can’t spend that kind of money on sunglasses. I bought a pair of Smiths on steep and cheap and love them. Lifetime warranty that I have not yet had to use.

oh yea, the eye jackets. i had a pair of those in the late 90’s and loved them. unfortunately,i broke them in a car wreck and never got wear them fishing. the other oakleys i had were both m frames i used for baseball and fishing. i like them ok but i prefer costas for the water. if i remember right, a sg salesman told me that oakley had done a good bit to improve their polorized lens since the 90’s. Did i remember that right? I have not had any o’s since the late 90’s so i may be willing to try them again if ever buy any more sun glasses. i have a brand new pair of costas which i really love as well as 3 other pair so i am pretty good on sg’s now. its just an interesting topic to me. thanks for the replies guys.

costas all the way…i use them whenever the sun is out, sometimes when its not, year round. plus last year i broke mine in half, sent them back and had a new pair the next week. all i paid was shipping.

lol. i wear my green mirror ones when the sun is not out also. Yea saltytiger, costa has great customer service/repair. So does Maui Jim. Ray ban has horrible customer service policies. you have to send them to Luxottica Corp. In 2000 i sent some ray bans in for repair and it took them 2 or 3 months to get back to me. Also, Kums sunglasses in Athens, Ga will sell you the arms for costas. I have never been able to find parts for any other sunglass in a store.

Maui Jims ALL the way. No one can beat their Customer service and Warranty.
NO ONE.

Costa warranty could use a lot of help. But I do like the new 580Ps

Since y’all suck because you can wear spiffy sunglasses, I’m stuck with the grand-ma style sunglasses. You know the kind…they fit over your glasses and are as big as your face.

I finally found Cocoons and they do a pretty decent job and have a life time warranty as well.

They come in different sizes and style, you can find them at Bass Pro.

There is another style that is even better:

The Vistana

At $59.00 with a lifetime warranty, they feel very comfortable, are not heavy and almost look like real sunglasses. Check 'em out on-line. I stopped by the optometrist near Sonic at US 17 & Hwy 41 and he ordered me a pair - took about a week to get them.

You and me both Claim, you and me both. I’ve been wearing Cocoons for a few years. They may look stupid but they work great.

I have a pair of costa and Maui. The costas have dust on them. I think they suck. I wear my Maui’s everywhere. They are the most comfortable, lightest I’ve ever had.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

Smith Fly By for me. Comfortable, durable, and they cut the glare. Zero distortion and the cutthe glare.
The 2x magnifiers are a near perfect match for my bifocals.

I can’t keep a pair of sunglasses long enough to pay more than $20 bucks. Walmart specials work for me. Maybe when I grow up and get responsible, I will be able to wear Oakleys or Costas.

I do try and find ones that say polarized so I don’t go blind too early.

I have 3 pair of Costa’s and have busted (not at the same time) all three. Have sent all three down to Fl. for repair and every time all I was charged was shipping. Repaired and frames buffed out lookin like brand new! I wear green mirrior 580 Harpoon’s and they are the best sunglasses I have ever owned hands down. I am constantly cleaning mine with anything I can find and havn’t scratched them in 4-5 years. The glass lenses instead of plastic make all the difference. Hell, I can’t walk to the mail box any more with out sunglasses.:sunglasses:

Costa’s… with my prescription and bifocals. Crazy expensive & worth every dime.

“Temptation may lean on the doorbell… opportunity may only knock once”

I’ve noticed two things about my last 2 pair of costa’s.

  1. After several hours i’m going to get a headache just behind my ears.

  2. The soft rubber they are putting on there frames will peel off and bug the crap out of me and after super glueing back to frame will still peel off again.

My bro’s seen this same peeling issue with his costas as well.

Great lenses, not so great quality of frame. And the 580 glass is sooo much more durable and scratch resistant it ain’t even funny.

I’ll be looking at Smith’s and MJ’s for my next pair.

I have the tortoise shell hard plastic frames and they pinched behind my ears as well…heat you up some water in a pot on the stove (don’t boil it, but have close) then put the ear piece in the water for a second or two, remove and gently bend it out, especially towards the end where they pinch…I was able to customize mine to perfection.
and yes, my Costas with 580 lens are the best glasses I have ever owned.
