Grace and I headed out Saturday to see if we could round up some fish. We started fishing about an hour before low tide. Lines stayed put, no bad currents. The recent full moon and the storms that moved in Friday had the water full of grass and very dirty looking, black along the shore line. Despite the muck we were lucky enough to snatch up a few fish and were grateful to be out. Weather was nice for most of the day. The days tally was a couple of whiting, 3 small arm length sharks and two decent reds. One red hit bonito and the other frozen finger mullet shortly after low tide. The shark activity picked up at dusk as usual. We had one good run that bite off a red rig that seemed pretty decent but lost him. There was allot of little minnows running around in the surf and small fish striping off the meat on the shark baits. Activity seems to have picked up some with signs of fish in the surf, thank God. Got a few puppy pics for Gail. I hung a plastic bag with the bloody bonito from my cart with a slow drip chumming the water all day, Grace thought it was for her thus getting her a little bloody oops.
Nice looking trough.

Good work man! What beach? I was in Georgetown for a conference this weekend and got about an hour to hit the beach on Pawley’s. I didn’t have any luck, and conditions weren’t so friendly

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Good looking fish Pete. It’s about time to see some life in the surf zone. Still waiting for the Mullet to show up.
Thank you for your responses folks. Gail the pup is not doing well, she has pulled or torn something in her back leg and it wont heal. She’s going to see a specialist on Tuesday and we may need to operate which I’ve been told can run a few grand. Hopefully they can fix her problem, she’s a little down, but the beach cheered her up. I’m looking forward to the surf fishing event that is coming up this fall for Military Appreciation day on the trip to Morris Island with the soldiers. If anyone has surf fished Morris Island and can lend some advice regarding which parts are productive please pm me. I’m not looking to steal anyones spots. I have my own. We just want to show the soldiers a good time. If anyone wants to join us climb on board and pm Gail. There are several more people needed to help take them fishing, and truth be said they deserve it.
Sweet. Hope your pup is going to be OK.

Great catch! That trough does look awesome. Oh yea, I appreciate the blue crab tips you posted before. I was able to put it to use this weekend. Didnt catch anything, but Im hopeful for future trips
Runbabyrun, awesome looking catch I am so jealous! No luck for me so far this year, I think I need to pick one spot and stick with it( I keep trying somewhere different every time I go out). I am terribly sorry to hear about Grace, the wife and I think she is such a cutie. and yes you are correct with the Vet prices…almost as if it were a person. I’m guessing she is too old to put on your insurance?
Thanks to all, Is anyone else having issues with things loading and taking a long time I think my pooter is malfunctioning. Having issues with everyones post on all threads.

Do you ever move up or down the beach during the same trip? I always try to cover as much surf as possible…“if” possible. Summertime it’s tough, lots if swimmers and surfers. Dead high tide and low will be DEAD, normally. Sting rays seem to move more during the slack tides though which is okay if nothing else is biting. Really you only have maybe 6-8 hours of potentially productive fishing, in the day time. The rest is transitioning tides. I guess my point is, if I’ve been in one spot for say an hour with zero bites, “if” possible, I am looking to move. I start rotating rod spikes down the beach. 50yrds can make big defference. Reading the water is important as well, troughs and holes, rocks and wood.
Oh yeah Pete, I looked through my phone and didn’t see were I missed your called? Did you loose my number? [:I] Seemed like you needed some help.
I thought about calling but with my last two outings didn’t want to put you a on a goose egg. It’s been:dizzy_face:
…i like eggs…

Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■ Mr. Parker!
when I say picking a spot I mean more a particular marker, such as 42nd st on IOP. I should move more frequently up and down the beach but most of the time I’m usually parked (due to the MRS being with me). I am still working on the reading the beach part and I don’t think that any of the map services are accurate as the sand doesn’t always match. I know the sandbars change, especially with storms. So for the most part I try to concentrate on my casts and NOT loosing my gear. I think the guys on Y-tube are full of hooey.
If RBR and Dparker team up there will be no fish left for the rest of us.
LOL Spot for spot Mr. Parker takes me 9/10 times. It’s like a middle weight butting heads with a heavy weight. I’m well aware of where I stand in the pecking order, but in my defense he is one hell of a fisherman

If it wasn’t for the two of you (and sharing the surf fishing videos), I’d still be attempting to launch my bait to Bermuda.
HAHA seriously!

If you’re trying to catch bigger Sharks? Chunk it as far as you can. Better yet, get you one of those Kayaks and paddle wwaayy out and drop your bait. But for surf “fish”, even at a high flood tide, you might have to cast 50-60yrds to hit your spot. Most of my casts are less than 25.
And, back in the day, me and Pete used to fish Bermuda AALLL the time…fishin’ got slow there too. coincidence?..NOT!!!
