couple questions

This is my first post. It’s not a report per say but I wanted it to be focused in the beaufort area.

  1. I was near cotton island this past weekend and there were millions of menhaden. every now and again a huge white/silver fish would come up in the middle of them and make a huge blow up. I assume these are tarpon but I have really don’t know, are they?
  2. Two weeks ago I was gigging and sat. night under the lights were tens of millions of little red things swimming around. I though they were minnows but I scooped some up and they looked like worms. They were not there the night before. what were they?
  1. Almost certainly tarpon, but possibly sturgeon.

  2. they are a larvae that hatch out every year about this time. Only lasts for a few days. IIRC, they are from whelk eggs.
