New here from Long Island – any decent crabbing spots I’m in Summerville but will travel !!
People seem to do well at the James island county park pier. Tends to get quite busy on weekends though.
I’ve seen people pull up plenty of crabs at Crosby’s dock at Folly beach
look up pitt street bridge ,catch all the crabs you want.
the spots everyone else said will work and if you get a box trap ($25ish at most tackle shops) and place it a few feet deep in the surf with a chicken leg or chunks of fish ive done really well like that while surf fishing in the spring. you can also try a place called bushy park, however it can get a little crowded and you will sort through many small crab to get keepers and probably lose your bait to a gator a time or two. most of the ones i caught in the surf however were well over the 5" minimum.
Thanks to all … I hope I can find these places depending on google maps and GOS // now I did bring my surf gear down … As off the last post I’m almost positive I won’t b surcadting anytime soon if I have to share my chicken with gators lol
as for gators you will find those a lot more around bushy park than the other places since the water isnt as salty there, but although its happened to me and several others ive talked to at bushy its not like you have to fight it every trip or anything. when it does happen though everyone gets a good laugh. water temp is still a bit low so although you may get a few now it will be much better when it warms back up. as for the surf any of the local beaches will work. good luck if ya go!
hey guys traveled around found all the spots ur talking about thanks … so is it time yet ??? looks like bushy park my best option travel wise … but need to know what side of the street to crab on ??
The side with metal docks and 4 boat launches.
Crabbings pretty easy, don’t over think it. Any public access in saltwater is good for crabbing, try a different place each time and in short order your have yourself a spot! Go buy a few drop ring nets(the circular ones) get about 10-15’ of string on em, tie a 5oz weight to underside using fishin line, and rubber band a chicken neck and back to inside. Bring a bucket and a ruler. Crabs must be minimum 5 inches from point to point, DNR makes a handy stickeryou can get at any tackle store
thanks fire / yakman thanks yea just about the same in NY thanks
any suggestions for fishing while crabbing there ? catch and release ?
I use to fish there alot when I was younger, caught everything from ladyfish to trout and reds. Really you can catch anything, use mud minnows, shrimp, and cut or finger mullet. You could also try artificial to pass time. I always catch and release but its a personal choice. Just make sure to follow regs on sizes and stuff.
You can find sea trout, redfish, and flounder on the Bushy Park pier, but the water is extremely shallow at low tide. Take something like soft plastics, like Z-mans, Trout Tricks, curly tail grubs. Mud minnows and finger mullet work fine as well, and if you bring a cast net you can net up all the bait you’ll need.
Moral judgment under girds the entire structure of laws and is necessary for the rational structure of any significant statute. The idea that our laws can stand independent of moral foundation is senseless.----- Albert Mohler.
right off the pier ive only caught a big flounder once before but if you can get ahold of a canoe/kayak you will do much better fishing around the area rather than right at the dock.
You can catch blue crabs in summerville at the Ashley river behind Dorchester lanes bowling ally. People do it all the time
