Looking at MSN aerial maps, I noticed a rather large creek on Otter Island that empties into the ocean across from Edisto Beach. Is this creek accessible from the ocean or is better to get to it from the other end by ■■■■■■■ Cut? We like to explore/fish and this creek looks interesting. Thanks for any info, Mike.
You can get to it from the front but it can be tricky. I learned it by going in the end near ■■■■■■■ going all the way through and coming back toward the beach at low tide. When you come out the mouth of it try to line up with the water tower on the beach. About half way look back and you will establish a line to run each time if you do not have GPS. Doing this at low tide you will see the sand bars.
Thanks, Striker. Good advice. We moved to Yonges Island a couple of years ago and are having a blast exploring and fishing. We live on Swinton Creek off the Toogoodoo and seem to find new places all the time. A native Charlestonian, BTW. Are there any fish in the this Creek (name?) or is cruising its best attribute, Mike?
It is called Fish creek. I haven’t fished it yet. Been doing to good at my other spots which are a lot closer. I plan to try this place. When you get in there they are a lot of oyster mounds and a couple of bends with trees in the water, should do very well for redfish. Let me know how you do.
I have a 17’ CC Scout with a 100 HP Yammie 4 stroke. Is the back fairly easy to navigate? What is the average water depth say on low tide. Thanks, Mike.
Water depth varies; But you can count on at least 4’ at low if you watch where you are. I would not advise it without a depth finder. I have a 16’ cc Scout w/60 Yammy never a problem, also been in there with a 20’ cc Scout no problem.
There is lots of good fishing in this creek. I think that the Fontaines have the shellfish harvesting rights. The last time I went fishing in there I could not turn one fish when it hit. I caught a nice black drum in the first bend. Very deep hole at low tide.
Last fall since I’ve been up Fish creek. A few spottail and a flounder or two. Caught some big Jack Crevalle there too. Take it slow and watch your depthfinder.
