CU vs GT

Man I hate watching the triple option. boring. and CU has to deal with it again vs citadel.

I have a question.
The fumble by GT late in the 2nd. No doubt it was a fumble. The call on the field was that he was down. My question is since the whistle had blown, and the players stopped. How can it be overturned? how do you determine the outcome of a dead ball play.
If you watched, the GT players all stopped. all but 2 CU players stopped. 1 jumped on the ball and then lost it before slowly getting up and getting the ball. I thought once the whistle blow it was done.

I’m not questioning anything with Clemson or GT. just that one call.

It was not the correct call. Yes it was a fumble, but after the play was blown dead. The ref was an idiot for blowing the whistle.

That was my thought as well. I think the refs are told to just let it play out and go to the booth. But that guy didn’t

Well, the actual rule is if the whistle did blow and there was an immediate recovery by the other team in the official’s opinion, then the ball is awarded to them. If there would have been a scrum or a player from each team battling for the ball, then it is isn’t overturned due to your reasoning Fish.

Thanks RWL. So since Clemson did not immediately recover it, it should have stayed as a dead ball.
Either way it was a bad call

The actual words are “there has to be a clear recovery by the other team”. I can’t find a video of it yet, but I seem to remember in the course of the play when the ball came out, the Clemson player immediately recovered the ball without any GT player around him. Again, it is the official’s opinion that matters, not ours on whether it was an “clear recovery”.

IMO, it wasn’t like everyone was standing around looking at each other and the Clemson player just happened to pick the ball up. If the whistle would not have blown I think the Clemson would have recovered the ball, thus the call. only bad part of the call was blowing the whistle early! IMO.

Clemson did immediately recover it. You must have missed Jarret, that big 320+lb lineman fall on the ball as soon as it hit the ground. I was hard to see, especially when he got up off the turf with the ball and handed it to the ref.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I can’t find a video either, but Thursday might game are the only ones my son watches with me(saturday he is to “busy”). But he asked about the call. So I rewound it and watched. There were only 2 players still playing. both Clemson. the 1 Clemson player jumped on the ball, which he then lost control and popped out. he then grab the ball.

I’m not arguing " If the whistle would not have blown I think the Clemson would have recovered the ball, thus the call. only bad part of the call was blowing the whistle early! IMO." AT ALL. I completely agree. My only purpose here was to understand the rule because I could not explain to my son why the result was a fumble recovered after the whistle.

Just curious FISH. After reading this post in which you are just asking for clarification on the ruling/call on the field so you can explain it to your son, how then, would you know to say “it was a bad call” in the previous post? Sounds like you didn’t know whether it was a bad call or not, right?

At first, full speed, I thought he was down. after review it was clear it was a fumble. But the whistle had blown. I thought it would not be called a fumble because the whistle was blown. But when the official made the ruling, I was confused. Thats why I asked.

So, then wouldn’t it be fair to say that Clemson owns the Coots, or would that lead to someone “living in the past” or “being a history major”? Or, am I not hearing the sarcasim in your thoughts and this was a jab at Clemson fans reminding Coot fans that you may have won the last 4 battles, but you aren’t winning the war? :sunglasses:

Sitting at the game last night the officials took FOREVER to make the ruling. I don’t know how long it seemed when you’re sitting at home watching on TV, but it was ridiculous at the game.
No doubt it was a fumble, official blew the whistle early and most of the action stopped. Only good news is it didn’t affect the outcome of the game.
