Curious

If you were athletic director of a college with a large football program and had to hire a head coach, and your two choices were Spurrier or Dabo, which would you choose?

Dabo.

At 45 years of age, there is a lot of gas left in the tank.At 70 years of age,you are running on vapors.Recruits and their parents look at age,and is the reason so many de-committed earlier to USc

In Dabo’s first 2 or 3 years as head coach I would have said the OBC.

But as of now Dabo.

Spurrier had an amazing career, and was one of the best. But he is on the downward slide. While Dabo could be our coach for another 10+ years and could have just as an amazing career. He is still young and learning.

Dabo, or a 10 years younger Spurrier.

That’s how I feel. Hard for the chicken fans to accept, but life goes on

Will you feel the same way if Spurrier beats Dabo this year. What if he gets lucky and beats him this year and the next year? I respect Dabo, I think he is a good person and coach, but I will stick with Spurrier. If the next two years resemble this past one I may change my opinion. You guys are acting like the program is totally dead. They are one season removed from finishing a season ranked #4 in the country. I am not sure what this season brings, but I will take my chances with what we have.

Yes. Spurrier is not going to bring USC a national championship before he retires in a few years so I’d rather have Dabo, who will be at Clemson for the long term and a consistent top 15 team with a shot at the playoff every 3-4 years.

And Dabo is evolving and getting better every. He learns from his mistakes which is evident in a variety of ways. After 6 years of coaching he has plenty of room to grow and is always innovating. While spurrier showed last year he is stubborn in his ways and will not change. Ie throwing the ball over and over in the 4qt to lose big leads when he should have just run the ball. Can’t teach a old dog new tricks.

And state champions in the record book since 1896…

This is like asking if you’d rather have Tim Duncan or AndrewWiggins. If you just need to win this year, there is still an argument for Duncan. But if you are building something for 10 years, you have to go with the younger guy. He may never be as good (which isn’t a slight,it’s hard to be an all time great) but he might be. And in any event, you get more years, which is the thinly veiled point of this thread.

Really? In the ACC they should have a shot at the playoffs every year.

Exactly. They are so mighty and powerful, right?

Hasn’t the SEC has been shut down in major bowls for 2 straight years?

Clemson, FSU, and even GT can all say they’ve done better than that. Weird huh?

But the 2/3 of the SEC is in the top 25… or 2/3 of the top 25 is the SEC, right??? I wonder how that happened?
