I put in at Folly & go to the south side of Morris Island all the time. From there, how difficult is it to cut behind Morris Island to get to the harbor? Is it to shallow? Thanks!

Doable at any tide in either of your boats if you know where you’re going. Google earth it

I did that and checked the GPS and it looked doable. Just wanted some input from someone that has actually done it before. Thanks!

scout it at low tide so you see the stuff you can’t see at mid & high tide. i made it through there my 1st time in a 21’ deep vee no problem at low tide, just went slow, & we drug bottom a bit trying to get past that sandbar below
the last couple bends before it dumps into lighthouse inlet there used to be a sandbar right dead center in the middle of the creek, and you can’t see it unless it’s close to low tide. here’s the basic route:
^^^ Awesome map! I’m actually trying to get from Lighthouse Inlet to the Harbor. I don’t know if you have ever gone that way, but if you could do a map of that, I would be more than thankful!

I’m trying to post a picture of the area but I can’t figure out how to.

Yes. Governors Cut and hug Morris Is after the corner
After Fort Johnson Creek you make a big right hand turn. Then you go to make an almost U left hand turn just south of Clark Sound. I see 2 creeks on the right during this U left hand turn just south of Clark Sound. Do I take the 1st right or 2nd right?? I am assuming one of the is the Governors Cut??

Try this… however, I think stuff moves and these may now be “approximate” #'s for a route:

I went Saturday and made it. Took the right before the Governors Cut in about 2.5ft of water. At dead low…may have not worked. Thanks!

Which way did you go, not sure what is Governor’s Cut? Sounds like you took the first creek at u-bend?
Yes, some other boats and i took the 1st creek. It was 2-3ft deep at mid tide, so at dead low i’m not sure if you can make it. 2nd creek is marked with a white post and marks Governors Cut i’m pretty sure. 2nd creed is probably deeper but it is a much longer route.

Govt Cut can get real skinny at low water, but the “2nd creek” as you call it is very tricky, but can be run at the lowest of low tides…

Thanks for input and clarifications. I’ve never tried to go through any of that but have seen boats come/go that way so figured there’s a way through there. New area to explore!

Theres nothing like the "Smell" and sounds of the creek. Its not just one thing that makes it familiar..its all of it.
At dead low, with 5 people and beer in my bay boat, I’ve literally trimmed up the engine and got out and walked the boat through the center third of Governor’s cut. That boat draws 15" dry and empty.
When it’s shallow some folks like to run through the cut on plane- so listen and watch for others coming from the opposite direction !

Actually, there is plenty of water behind Morris but, many times the waterways will narrow up to one way traffic VERY quickly. [:0]
that’s why I am always standing up when I run Govt Cut…been surprised before by others who are low profile and unseen…
