Daufuskie Island

Headed there next week for a couple of days. Might try some surf fishing if there’s anything biting. Any ideas?

Never fished there, but looking at the map two spots look pretty good. High tide falling, when the current is running. Fresh dead shrimp…always, then whatever else you got. Should find some Reds moving through the quick running cuts, Black Drum where it’s slower, Whiting…well…anywhere! Cut/chunk bait will, more than likely, produce Sharks and Rays, although I hear Red Drum like mullet? Ya never know. Specks? Pomps?

Yea that looks good. I like the spot straight off Captain Monroe Ln. Big trough in front to fish and hopefully tide goes out enough and you can wade through water to the sand bar. Fish ocean side of the bar and should be good, but who knows how deep that trough is- may or may not be able to reach that outer bar. If you can, it could be productive. One thing to remember don’t get caught by the tides sitting on the outer bar and have no way back. Be aware of the trough that fills in behind you and how deep it is getting. Looks like a good spot, maybe we should take a road trip Mr. Parker:smiley: Good luck Bowhunter.

Thanks a bunch, guys. Will give that a try. I’ll definitely have shrimp and maybe some cut mullet.

We’re staying on the beach off Bloody Point Dr. so that will be my starting point. Thanks.

Well we’re back from 4 days on Daufuskie and here is my report. I fished the circled area off Bloody Point. I used shrimp and cut blue back herring on a simple Carolina rig with 1 oz. weight and #4 & #6 hooks. Caught a ton of sting rays, a few small whiting, a couple of small sharks, and a couple of blues. Bite was steady as long as I wanted to feed the rays. It was high tide early in the morning, but it didn’t seem to matter. I fished all stages and got bites almost all day. TONS and TONS of menhaden, I think, moving up and down the beach all day. They were flipping on top everywhere and the Seagulls and Pelicans were wearing them out. Should’ve carried a cast net cause they were within easy casting range. On the beach side, there is no current and almost no wave action. Slick calm most of the time. Not what I really wanted, but at least I had something pulling back.

Did get to see a Manatee in the Harbor River and about 15 or so turtle nests along the beach. And got tired of picking up sand dollars.

Thanks for the advice…
