Whats the best tide for day shrimping in St. Helena sound? When the tide is going out, Plenty of mud, plenty dark for em?
Is it best to shrimp at night? More active at night? Guess I’m just looking for a little schooling on the difference between the two. Somehow the tides for shrimping at night just dont coincide with my work schedule. Don’t want to use up too much vacation too early in the season.
I’m no expert, but I’ve always caught more shrimp on the flood tide as it gets close to the marsh, day or night. You will probably catch more at night, with or without bait. Also, there must me a reason that DNR doesn’t allow trawlers to shrimp at night. The shrimper forum on this website should be helpful. Axe some of those guys, they know best…

Shrimp migrate at night, therefor no trawlers at night.

I’ve always done better during the day. The shrimp tend to run away from the lights on the boat at night. I’ve been bait shrimping since before there were laws on it. In Charleston Harbor, it’s just the opposite.
