Struggling to find the deep hole shrimp on my sonar. Have a small color Garmin set at 70-75% gain, dual, 2 or 4 zoom on bottom and no to limited noise reduction. Can anyone describe what they will look like and what settings they use. A screen shot would be awesome but that’s asking a lot I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
They look like live bottom fuzz in the water column. Will not be a hard color but an intermediate.

I don’t have a pic but short, green spikes on both my Garmin and Furuno. Normally just off the bottom.
I’ve got an Echomap 50s and a 740S and I leave the gain at normal. They show up as a green haze near the bottom.I’ve tried tweaking the gain to get a better reading immedietly after getting a decent cast (40 or 50 shrimp) but to no avail. When they are really thick, say a 5 or 10lb cast, the green cloud will be very visible.

Forgive my ignorance but would the colors, spikes, etc. be the same for a Lowrance?
Probably not. They show up light blue on my Humminbird.

Larry,
Do you ever find them down your way when the water is this warm, 77 here now? I have found them before when water was 75 but there had been no rain and water was very clear.
My Garmin 540s shows up as red and yellow fuzz in the water column on near or on botton of the hole.

Yes. Planning on going Thurs or Fri after the wind from this front lays down. Plenty of shrimp in the shallows too, but the larger shrimp stay deep. Hope to catch a cooler of shrimp, then a hundred or so fish. I’ll only keep 3. Then maybe pick up a few buckets of oysters and a few clams. There ain’t no better time than this in the low country

They’ll be black… Red if really thick.

Not to bust the thread, but this is sort of related. What would you guys guess the sink rate is on a taped deep hole net? I’m trying to estimate the drift with current based on the time it takes to get to the bottom. Thanks.
Depends mostly on the mesh size, thickness of netting material, and amount of lead per ft.
A bigger net will give you more room for error.

Good point Phin. My net is a 10 ft taped with 1.5 lbs/ft. I’m pretty sure it is 1/2 in. mesh. Can’t remember the brand name, but it is a “deep hole net”.
Ok, getting back to the subject…seems we’ve taken a bit of a tangent here talkin about nets…
does anyone have sonar pictures they can post here from their fish finder that shows the following conditions:
-lots of shrimp on a sandy ocean floor
-no shrimp on a sandy ocean floor
-lots of shrimp on a pluff mud floor
-no shrimp in an area of pluff mud

Someone had a pic on here several years ago - search couldn’t find it.
It was a color sonar and shrimp showed up red like fish. Was a wide stripe along the bottom that looked like blades of grass or hay or sort of like pick-up sticks but, mostly vertical lines. It was in a bottom depression along a channel. Said they cast there normal shrimp net on them and was like a 1/4 cooler per throw.
