You are not going to like this, but I’m going to say it. $8 per bag this year is borderline rip off. $9 and $10 is a big rip off. Here is why I think that: (1) fuel prices are down and staying down, (2) the State just dished out $40 million of tax payer money to the farmers due to the flood last year, (3) we have had steady rain this year with no drought. Crops are looking good all over the State. I have found the big white bags at $7 so far, and I expect I’ll be finding it at a little better price even if I have to drive a little bit to pick it up.

Skeeter seems to be in a bit of a fog…from Orangeburg on through the upstate, dry as chip. Where I am in Dorchester county is dry too, just enough moisture for the corn early, but if you waited, too bad. If we didn’t get the early tropical storm, we would be in moderate drought conditions.

Skeeter, I would suggest you plant feed corn and see what you could sell it for, before you criticize. Been there and done that.
Of course…I forgot. The Poly troll know EVERYTHING. No way to have another perspective or thought about anything with the Poly troll around. Silly me.

Your not going to Like this, But 1) The price of fuel doesn’t matter 2) The state hasn’t dished out a (**() thing yet, 40 Million has been approved, the application process just wrapped up but nobody has received a dime, the max a farmer can receive wont cover the loss they incurred 3) The corn crop looks good, but the corn doesn’t sack itself up, pay for the bag, the labor, the seed, fertilizer, ect, ect, ect and having to deal with aggravating deer hunters always trying to nickel and dime you to death, 8$ sounds pretty reasonable to me on a big heavy bag. Ive seen it for 7$ locally in cabbage bags which is more than fair, and this man is selling cabbage bags for that also. And no drought? From Bowman South and east Toward St. George its been dry, North of 26 on through the lakes to Florence the crop is strong, get west of Orangeburg towards 20 and they burnt slap up in some areas. It all boils down to how much aggravation you want to deal with, this post being a prime example of how the general public thinks they know way more than they do.
Well, then it is a good thing that we can still shop around and get it cheaper than $8 per bag. My tractor runs on diesel. Diesel cost $$$. So, does yours run on air? I won’t be buying $8 per bag when I can get it for $6-7 per bag because there will certainly be a surplus this year. There will always be somewhere in the state that does not do as well as another, but more than not are doing exceptionally well this year. The things I listed are logical reasons for corn prices to be a bit lower this year. And yet, it is the same price as last year.

You have never planted deer corn, nor sold it, but you are the expert. Listen to Salty, he knows WTF he is talking about, I think you are clueless with the work, and money involved in deer corn. Again, plant it one season and see for yourself.
It would be a whole lot easier to run the combine through all of it and sell it later, be thankful some folks want to deal with it.
There’s Bolbie again.

Most tractors run on Diesel and air, mine are no exception. That being said you accused the OP of ripping people off, I threw out a few facts to discredit your stupid statement. Ive got a degree in Agribusiness and know quite well how the market works, deer corn is a PITA and doesn’t have a thing to do with what corn is doing on the board in 2016, the price of diesel, ect. The seed is High, the fertilizer is down this year but still isn’t free, bags are up in cost and labor is non existent in this day and age so if you can find people to help you have to pay them more today than years past. All that adds up and to make what, $1 maybe 2 a bag to sack it over sending it to the elevator??
Salty, you are worth having a conversation with, but Poly (Bolbie, Toppy Blu, ect, ect) is a well known troll. I’m stating how I see it. You are on the defensive. I happen to like farmers, but you absolutely do not corner the market on hard work and sweat. I didn’t make you choose to be a farmer in a highly competitive market with risk factors due to environmental conditions. You did that all on your own, pal. Your sweat is not more precious than any other person. It is not stupid to question the price. It is smart actually…unless you are the seller. Questioning the price is what customers do. Don’t plant deer corn if it is too “aggravating” for you to explain why your competition has a lower price.
“Most tractors run on Diesel and air, mine are no exception.” This statement is 100% correct, but you knew exactly what I meant when I said mine runs on diesel. In the context, it meant diesel costs money while you said the cost of fuel does not matter–when it does.
You just don’t like it that I’m questioning why the advertised price is more than I am seeing advertised in other places.

Skeeter, if you have found it for better prices then I wouldn’t try and convince you to buy mine. Like these fellas have said it’s alot of work. This being my first year selling it, it is alot of work by yourself. And farming isn’t my primary job. I enjoy watching it from start to finish and got lucky this year with rain. I really won’t make any overall money from it. The little bit of money that would be made is used to leave a few strips to attract some doves and maybe have a few bags left over for the last month of the season. I don’t have but 5 acres planted. However the prices mentioned are per bag. The more you buy the more I will cut you a break on the price. I try to be fair as I can and not lose money while doing it. With that said I hope everyone has a great season and I look forward to the big buck pics to come!

Overall, I’m really not trying to beat up on ya BC. I’m mainly saying I’m not going to buy it at $8 per bag when I can get the same thing or more for less. I can see where it can be tougher for you with a small operation. You take care. Hope you shoot a big one too.

Bolbie has planted plenty of deer corn, enough that he knows not to ■■■■■ with it ever again. Skeeter has never planted it, but he knows all about the production and pricing. Beautiful.
And you keep getting booted off this site only to come back as the same troll under a different name. You have zero credibility on this forum. Those that don’t know find out about you quickly. If you must know though, I have grown plenty of corn. We never sold the corn. The corn supplemented feeding the hogs. We sold the hogs.

Nah, only once. You sure seem stuck on that though, keep up the good work, it warms my heart knowing you care soo much!
So, the fertilizer, lime, and corn seed were free for hog production?WOW! never heard that.
Well, you are admittedly the exact troll I have been talking about. Never said that those things were free. You made it up out of thin air–fact.

You call that jumping on him? You are seriously thin skinned Salty. Maybe you should sweat and sack some more corn in order to toughen up those sensitive feelings of yours. I defer back to this again, “I’m stating how I see it. You are on the defensive. I happen to like farmers, but you absolutely do not corner the market on hard work and sweat. –Lower fuel prices.
–$40 million state bail out.
–Billions of dollars in federal subsidies per year.
The list goes on and on.

$5.97 per 50lbs bag of only corn at Wal-Mart, and you want to sell me a bag of mostly cobs for $8. THAT’s my point.
