Deer Season Temp Closure

Starting at noon Wednesday through Sunday deer season will be closed while flood waters recede. This comes from DNR. I don’t have the link on my phone but it’s all over Facebook.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The only closings DNR has anounced are all public oyster beds and some WMA areas due to flooding. Deer hunting on private and unaffected public land to remain open…

Oh no, say it isn’t so. That was my hope of salvaging this week on the water.

SCDNR news release says nothing about deer hunt closures except WMA’s

I’m going, have not been since the rain pushed me out last week.

Update - DNR has requested a closure to the hunting seasons until the water has receded. For those of you in Horry and Georgetown counties, please be advised that the current plan is to close the season from Thursday until Sunday. DNR should be issuing a statement tomorrow with the final plan. Per Stephen Goldfinch’s Facebook posting.

I called DNR this morning to verify this. Great people there! Shellfish harvesting is closed from St. Helena to the NC state line until further notice. South of there is open to the GA line.

They have a shellfish hotline with up to the day information.

I kmow, this ain’t hunting. Oysters aren’t hard to hunt, taste better than deer or marsh hens

I like oysters, deer and beer… Never had marsh hen.

You ain’t missed much there!

DNR guy also told me they would be doing water sample tests daily and may have to close area south of St. Helena too. He said to check daily before you go.

NEWS RELEASE #15-26 October 7, 2015 DNR News (803) 667-0696

Temporary hunting closure is declared in multiple counties in S.C.

Due to unprecedented statewide flooding, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has declared a temporary closure for hunting within five (5) coastal plain drainage systems on all game species except for alligator, doves, hogs and coyotes. The Department has received contacts from numerous concerned sportsmen. The flooding has created potential for exploitation of game species that are deprived of their normal escape routes and confined to small areas of high ground.
Effective at Midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, a 4-day closure of the hunting season for all game species excluding alligator, dove, hogs and coyotes will be in effect. The current closure will continue until Midnight, Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015. DNR will continue to monitor flooded areas to adjust the closure zones and timeframes as conditions change.

I agree with this action for public land. I don’t agree with this closure for privately owned land.

Sailfish, I think it is justified. Reason being is the vast area that is flooded pushing deer into herds on small high areas. If I wanted to I could have slaughtered more than I believe you’d believe me to say. Some areas are crazy stacked up with Deer that a tight lined dog drive would decimate them.

Wife and I ran up on several Saturday Night that you could have hit with a stick. Poor things were wore down and too tired to run.

Heck Thur- Saturday when we have a 6 month season. No big deal.

It looks as if its only right along the river bottoms anyway, so all other areas in those counties are OK?

highway 45 is 8 miles from the Santee river. So it is not confined to the river bottoms. I hunt a property that borders the river that wil have maybe 5 percent effected. All will be closed to deer hunting. I hunt another 900 acres that will not be closed, yet it is 95 percent submerged.

We’ll have to disagree. Personally I don’t harvest more than two a year, but the principal of the matter is I really don’t like being told during deer season that the weather makes it unfair for the deer.

Just my opinion. And yes, my property is in the closure list. No, I don’t have standing water on my property more than mud puddles. I’m not near a major river not do I have flooding, but I’m still closed off.

Yeah, but the libtards will deem you selfish, no heart for flooding victims, and a blah, blah, blah. I’m not affected by the closures, but there has been an uproar. The uproar was because DNR did this before with far less rain over far greater amounts of land. Maybe they listened this time by keeping it to the no kidding flooded area, which is still dumb for only 4 days. 4 days won’t make any difference.
